If you bought discounted workout wear and have had trouble trying to cancel Fabletics, you could be eligible to participate in this investigation.

Fabletics is a web-based athletic wear company founded by actress Kate Hudson. The site claims to offer deep discounts on high-quality athletic wear. Consumers say that by making one purchase from the site, they were automatically enrolled in a VIP Fabletics monthly subscription that charged them $49.95 every month.

Many customers report trying to make just one purchase from Fabletics only to realize they have been deemed VIP customers who are charged the monthly subscription fee even if they do not buy anything that month. When members skip a month of purchasing, they collect credit that they can use on the site later because still have that monthly charge taken out of their credit card.

One online reviewer calls Fabletics “a complete scam” because she bought two pairs of leggings and didn’t realize she was automatically enrolled in a subscription service. She says she noticed three charges of $49.95 a month and went to the Fabletics site to chat with a customer service representative. She said that she was unable to obtain a refund for the nearly $150 that already had been charged to her credit card. She said she hopes the company “gets shut down.”

Another customer reports contacting customer service three times to cancel. She thought finally on the third phone call that her request to cancel was fulfilled. She says that three months later, she found out her subscription was never canceled and couldn’t be canceled until she used all of the credit she had accumulated over the three months she thought she was no longer in the program.

Cancel Fabletics After Enrollment by Minor Child

If a minor agrees to a contract without the parents’ permission, such as one for a Fabletics subscription, the contract is likely not valid. The parent could avoid the contract even if the child misrepresented their age.

At least two complaints were lodged online because minor children allegedly enrolled in the subscription service without realizing it until the parents found out. One woman’s daughter accidentally was enrolled in the program when she bought leggings as Christmas presents while shopping online. The mother said she is “still shocked that this deceptive practice is legal!”

Another woman reported that her teenage daughter kept receiving online offers for Fabletics and planned on buy only one pair with the advertised special, but ended up having her bank account, which consisted only of her allowance money, wiped out by monthly subscription charges.

The chances that a minor will enroll in an online retail subscription such as Fabletics are getting greater. According to recent statistics, the monthly visitors to subscription retail sites has grown 800 percent since 2014. The most popular subscriptions involve beauty products and food.

Still, the majority of the complaints regarding consumer attempts to cancel Fabletics is that the consumers did not realize they were enrolling in a monthly fee-based subscription when they simply purchase one item, one time only.

Fabletics says you can cancel the month’s fee by opting out of that particular month between the first and fifth of the month, but there are even complaints that such timing of their cancellation has not resulted in successful avoidance of that month’s fees from appearing on their credit card.
