ZLINE gas range recall overview:

  • Who: ZLINE recalled about 28,000 of its gas ranges.
  • Why: The ovens can emit dangerous levels of carbon monoxide.
  • Where: The recall is active in the United States.

ZLINE recalled about 28,000 of its gas ranges as their ovens can emit dangerous levels of carbon monoxide.

The recall comes after the firm has received 44 reports of carbon monoxide emission, including three reports of consumers seeking medical attention.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website posted the recall notice for ZLINE 30-inch and 36-inch RG gas ranges on Dec. 29.

According to the ZLINE recall, the oven of the gas ranges can emit dangerous levels of carbon monoxide while in use, “posing a serious risk of injury or death from carbon monoxide poisoning.”

Stop using ovens until repair is available, gas range recall says

The ZLINE recall involves the oven compartment of ZLINE gas ranges with model numbers RG30, RGS-30, RGB-30, RG36, RGS-36 and RGB-36. The model number is printed on a label on the back of the range.

For ranges purchased after 2020, the model number is also printed on a label underneath the right side of the range top, visible when the oven door is open.

Consumers should immediately stop using the oven compartment of the recalled ranges until a free repair is available, the gas range recall says.

Consumers may continue to use the range tops, which are unaffected by the issue, according to the recall. ZLINE says it is working to develop repairs for all affected units.

ZLINE sold the ranges at Best Buy, Lowe’s, The Home Depot and The Range Hood Store nationwide and online at www.bestbuy.com, www.build.com, www.costco.com, www.homedepot.com, www.therangehoodstore.com, www.overstock.com and www.wayfair.com.

The gas ranges were sold from Feb. 2019 through Dec. 2022 for between $2,300 and $5,000.

Meanwhile, more than 144,000 stoves from seven different brands were recalled in 2021 in the United States and Canada due to the risk of tipping over, injuring and burning people.

Still waiting for a technician to come out. They can’t give any time frame. I’m about to buy a toaster oven because I’m tired of cooking everything on the stove top. I’m also annoyed with their connection/microwave oven which has caught our food on fire twice now & shattered two glass baking pans. I will say that when the microwave door shattered, they sent a replacement immediately and easy instructions to install.

So has anyone who did not go to the doctor for symptoms contemplated a lawsuit just because of exposure? I’m sitting here thinking about the fact that my family has been exposed to this for last three years. I use my oven A LOT; when we first purchased the oven I thought it had an unusually strong gas smell coming from it when turned on; now I know. I have been advised to fill out a complaint form for the Department of Justice in my home state, which I will be doing promptly. I know for a fact that ZLine is not going to be able to get my oven repaired anytime soon. Something was broken on it about a year ago and we tried contact ZLine for a repair person; there was nobody even remotely close to do the repair; the reason being, that ZLine is not owned by one of the four major appliance brands so nobody knows how to work on them. We had to pay for the part to be shipped by ZLine and my husband had to repair it. So, there is no way any of our stoves are going to be repaired in a timely manner. I’m concerned that my kids and myself have beeen exposed to this for years especially considering the frequency at which we use it. I feel we should be reimbursed for not only exposure but for the months we have not been able to make food because our oven is unusable. Everyone should fill out a complaint with the department of justice in their home state.

As I read through these comments they tap into the EXACT same thing we are feeling. Paid $3600 for the oven and, since being notified by Home Depot and Zline, have gotten terrible customer service from Zline and, as most said, their solution was to not use the oven. This is totally unacceptable. We have been without the use of the oven for over a month now. Vey disgusted with the whole process. Have also tried to engage Home Depot but not gotten very far with them. Going into store today to see if they will replace the oven as I don’t want it in my house.

We purchased a home with a Zline already installed. I’ve been suffering with headaches for a couple months. Filed a claim today and was told that they have no timeline for a repair and when people call the manufacturer they get no response. I use it often and now have no way to cook (saying you can still use the range top is unacceptable!) and no idea when it will be repaired. That said, I want it out of the home and to be compensated for being poisoned for several months.

We purchased our 30″ Z-Line Gas Range in early 2022, for months we used the oven without being aware we were exposed to Carbon Monoxide, On Thanksgiving day my wife used the oven to cook a Turkey to take to our Daughters house for dinner, after working in the kitcjhen for several hours she became sick to her stomach and faint, she declined going to our daughters house for Thanksgiving. Now we know why she became ill. We paid 4,996.00 for this piece of garbage from Appliance Outlet, It was their Stainless model with Bronze Handles and knobs, now I want to remove it from our kitchen and unload a clip from my 9mm on it! On December 29th I received an email from Zline about the oven, I registered for the recall on the same day, I have called them repeatedly since then, All I get from the idiots at the recall center is to be patient, #$%& That! ZLine just puts you on hold forever and never picks up the phone. Now I am looking at filing a suit against them.

      It’s a magazine, not a clip.

  6. Shannon M Parker says:

We purchased ours about 6 months ago from Home Depot. I reached out to Zline first, attempting to get an ETA on the “fix” and like everyone else, I got nothing, except “don’t use the oven.” That is unacceptable! I then reached out to Home Depot, told them what was going on, asked for a refund and they gave it to me! Like everyone else’s comments on here, I am no longer comfortable keeping the oven, even if it was to be repaired. The button for the fan has never worked since the day we purchased the oven and that seems to be what the issue is. I am wondering if they sent out defective products from the beginning. For everyone else, see if where you purchased it will let you return it!

    1. Jean says:

I am so glad you were able to get your money back. I didn’t have any luck with Costco, but I may try again. It’s been a month now, and I’m a little tired of cooking like I’m camping.

  7. Jean McCarthy says:

We have had our 30” Zline for one year. Like everyone else, we paid a lot of money for this unit and the fact that we are now at 3 weeks+ with no answers is unacceptable. Each week I call the recall line and essentially get the same line, “we know nothing”. I tried calling ZLine directly, no answer. I sent them an email directly, no reply.

The fact that 28,000 people paid 3k+ for an oven that is a big, huge, dangerous paperweight for which none of us can use or get answers – screams incompetence at the highest level. I’m sure they’re trying to piece together kits – but here’s an idea – just put out a fix sheet that my gas guy can read, let him do the repairs, and ZLine reimburse the cost of parts and labor. Surely that will be cheaper than 28,000 pissed off customers who are going to tell everyone they can what a piece of garbage both the product and company are.

I am also sure that this manufacturer misstep was not intentional, however, as I said in my email to them, “it’s a you problem, not a me problem”.

At this point I want this stove out of my house. Even fixed, I don’t trust it. At what point do we have lawyers step in? How does one start a class action?

  8. Peter Schroeder says:

We submitted our recall claim over two weeks ago – but have heard nothing.
I just called their recall phone number, and the person told me that they have no timeframe for when we would receive the repair kit and have the range fixed. They would not even say if that would be in weeks or years.

  9. Denise varrone says:

Hello. We have the recalled 36in gas oven. Since receiving the oven our carbon monoxide defector has gone off numerous times. Resulting in fire and police at our home. With the winter here our family was forced to Waite outside in the cold until the dangerous carbon monoxide levels left our home. This took over an hour on multiple occasions. Since receiving the oven that we spent over 3000$ I’ve been afraid to use it. Now I know why. I want a partial refund. Please advise. Thanks.
No family should be put in this dangerous situation. I feel that your company should also contact my local fire department and make them aware of this situation.

    1. Blaze Bellomo says:

I have the 36” as well and we had the carbon monoxide detectors go off a few times and that was like. Year after having the oven that all the sudden the detectors started going off. We had someone from the fire department come over and he used a 4 gas meter and the levels were definitely at dangerous levels when the oven was in use. Had several appliance professionals look at it and they all could not figure out why saying it was biting right and all of that so they couldn’t tell me what the deal was. I had to pay multiple people to come look at it then figured I needed a bigger oven fan and a week later I get the recall email.

  10. Anne harrison says:

I purchased my store from the range hood store. I have had nothing but problems with it since I got it in August 2019. I had to order a new igniter because the stove kept going on and off in 2020 and they charge me almost $200 for the part. They wouldn’t even answer their phones and they were horrible, I have not been able to use my stove without it going on and off we have had headaches and been sick and didn’t even know what was going on. I only found out about the recall through a newspaper ad. They never even called to let us know that there were problems with our stove after they put the recall out now I called up to find out when we are getting our parts and they don’t have any information about anything . It is totally horrible. These are not cheap stoves. They are very expensive. That people thought we would buy once for our homes and we would get some thing that was good. They have the worst customer service ever. Now I am afraid of the long term effects because of all the time we spent having maybe low-dose carbon monoxide exposure . Every time we use the stove when people sick, dizziness, nauseous, and having memory issues.
