Volvo XC40 vehicle recall overview:
- Who: Volvo recalled 17,409 of its model year 2024 Volvo XC40 vehicles on Jan. 10.
- Why: The recall was initiated over concerns the Volvo XC40 vehicles contain defective left rear turn signals that could fail to alert approaching drivers of an intention to turn.
- Where: The recall impacts certain Volvo XC40 vehicle owners nationwide.
Volvo recalled more than 17,000 of its model year 2024 Volvo XC40 vehicles over concerns the hybrid electric vehicles contain a potentially defective left rear turn signal.
The recall affects certain Volvo XC40 vehicles produced between Oct. 13, 2022, and Dec. 20, 2023, that have not received corrected or updated software in their central electronic module that remedies the issue.
Volvo attributes the issue to a diagnostic misdirection of the short to ground for the left rear turn signal indicator, which will result in a loss of function for the left rear turn indicator.
“When the indicator stalk is used, and the left rear turn indicator lamp body is energized the diagnostic function may interpret the initial current as a short to ground,” the Volvo recall states.
Vehicle owners who have already paid for an out-of-pocket fix to recall issue may be reimbursed
Volvo said it will remedy the issue by conducting a software update on the recalled vehicles and said vehicle owners who have already paid an out-of-pocket expense for a repair in connection with the issue may be eligible for reimbursement.
Impacted vehicle owners will be notified about the recall Feb. 28, 2024, according to the recall.
Individuals who have more questions about the recall can contact Volvo directly by telephone at 1-800-458-1552.
Volvo initiated a separate recall last January for more than 27,000 vehicles over concerns they may have reduced brake support functions, increasing the risk of an accident.
