Veggie Noodle Ramen Recalled Over Listeria Risk

Veggie Noodle Co. has voluntarily recalled its Cece’s Veggie Co. brand Fresh Veggie Ramen with Chicken Broth because of an outbreak of listeria in numerous states, according to an FDA press release.

Specifically, the egg that is included in the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The news comes after a recall by an egg provider, Almark Foods, whose eggs are reportedly used in the Ramen product.

The FDA press release states that Veggie Noodle has received no reports of any illness linked to the Fresh Veggie Ramen with Chicken Broth. In addition, the company states that there are no other Veggie Noodle/Cece’s products that are affected by the recall.

The press release states that, “Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.”

Those who come into contact with Listeria monocytogenes should only have short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, according to the press release. However, in pregnant women, the release notes that Listeria can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths.

Georgia-based Almark Foods reportedly issued its recall after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration informed the company that its hard-boiled eggs may have been contaminated with Listeria.

In connection with this recall, seven people in five states have been contaminated with the bacterium, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The CDC states that consumers should not eat any of the hard boiled eggs that have been recalled and that the eggs should be returned to the store or thrown in the garbage.

“If people order hard-boiled eggs or meals with hard-boiled eggs at a restaurant, they should ask workers at the restaurant to confirm whether or not the establishment uses eggs from the Gainesville facility,” according to Newsweek.

The CDC has also recently informed the public in a food safety alert that they have expanded their recall of hard boiled eggs in numerous states.

In the alert, the CDC states: “Retail products were sold under more than 30 brand names and include pillow pack, pouch pack, frozen diced, and protein kit egg products. Foodservice products include eggs sold in large pails.”

Also, according to Fox Business, the FDA has also issued warnings to restaurants that might have purchased hard cooked eggs and egg whites in bulk to make sure that they are not using the products from the affected brands.

According to the FDA press release, consumer who have purchased any of the recalled products are urged not to eat them.
