A federal agency in charge of product safety is issuing a recall on two collections of baby clothes sold at Target.
Published Dec. 30, a U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) advisory notice says these Target recalls include some 299,000 Cloud Island infant rompers and an estimated 181,000 Cat & Jack infant and toddler swimsuits.
Cloud Island Infant Rompers
The Target recall for the Cloud Island infant rompers was issued due to a potential choking hazard, according to the advisory.
The CPSC says snaps on the rompers can break off into pieces that can be swallowed. The pieces can potentially pinch or cut skin, as well.
Dozens of styles of the rompers are included in the Target recall:
- Cloud Island Waterfront Baby Boutique Romper
- Cloud Island Little Peanut and True Navy Rompers
- Cloud Island Little Wildflower and Joyful Mint Rompers
- Cloud Island Oh Honeybee and Pink Rompers
- Cloud Island Floral Fields and Mint Rompers
At least 16 reports have been made so far of the romper snaps breaking off. One report of a child being scratched has been filed. Another report claims a child has been pinched.
Target sold these rompers online and in stores in sizes newborn to 12 months. They were also sold on GoogleExpress.com and Shipt.com from July 2019 to October 2020.
Target imports these rompers from China and Vietnam where they are made.
The recall number on these Target recalls is 21-061.
Cat & Jack Infant-Toddler One-Piece Rashguard Swimsuits
The second Target recall involves some 181,000 Cat & Jack brand swimsuits made for infants and toddlers.
Snaps are an issue with these clothes too, according to the CPSC alert. At least one injury, a laceration, has been reported, but 27 cases of the snaps breaking or detaching have been filed.
These swimsuits were sold at Target stores nationwide and online between December 2019 and October 2020, according to the alert.
Target imports the swimsuits from Vietnam.
The recall number is 21-062.
Last month, the Cat & Jack brand was dealing with a recall of their toddler boots. Target issued a recall after the Consumer Product Safety Commission found pieces of the boot could break off and present a choking hazard.
The recall included the Himani and Jaren styles of toddler boot in sizes 5 to 12. Five reports of the defect were filed, but no injuries were reported.
If a consumer owns items affected by the Target recalls, the Consumer Product Safety Commission says they should take the items away from children and return the clothing to the store for a full refund.
Shoppers can also contact the company’s customer service line at 800-440-0680 from 7 a.m to 8 p.m. Central daily for more information on these Target recalls. Target’s Facebook page has a recall tab with needed information. Alternatively, consumers can visit the company’s recall page.
Kids in Danger, a nonprofit agency working in product safety for children, says recalls on clothes accounted for 21% of the total recalls made relating to children’s products in 2018, according to its own study.
