Impossible Foods, General Mills, Ellenos Real Greek, Vornado, Diamond Visions top recalls overview:

  • Who: Impossible Foods, General Mills, Ellenos Real Greek, Vornado and Diamond Visions all recalled products this week.
  • Why: These top recalls involve product safety and possible risk of harm.
  • Where: The recalls are effective in the United States; the Vornado recall is also active in Canada.

Several popular companies, retailers and manufacturers announced top recalls last week for products that may pose injury to consumers.

Impossible Foods chicken nuggets recalled due to wood contamination

Impossible Foods published a recall on its company website March 17 for more than 250,000 cases of Impossible Chicken Nuggets produced by one of the company’s co-manufacturers, OSI Industries LLC, between Oct. 20 and Nov. 23, 2022.

The company initiated the recall after it received reports of small pieces of wood in some of the 13.5-ounce retail packages.

Consumers who purchased a product covered by the recall should not consume it and can immediately dispose of it.

General Mills recalls Gold Medal flour products due to possible salmonella

General Mills issued a recall of certain bags of flour after it discovered the products possibly contained salmonella infantis during sampling.

The notice does not state whether the Gold Medal unbleached and bleached all-purpose flour with “better if used by” dates of March 27, 2024, and March 28, 2024, caused any illnesses relating to the potential contamination. Consumers should refrain from consuming any 5-pound bag products and discard them.

Ellenos Real Greek yogurt sold at Costco recalled due to mispackaging

On April 25, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) website published a recall for Ellenos Real Greek Vanilla Bean Greek Yogurt sold in 4-ounce cups in Costco 12-pack cases with item number 1340833.

Costco initiated the recall when it discovered a few 4-ounce cups containing bright yellow puree instead of solid white yogurt with vanilla bean flakes in vanilla bean yogurt cups. After a full internal investigation, it determined the vanilla bean yogurt cups were inadvertently used and packed with lemon curd yogurt products; the vanilla bean yogurt cup label does not declare egg.

Consumers with an egg allergy or sensitivity who have purchased the affected product are urged not to consume the product and should dispose of it or return it to their place of purchase for a full refund.

Steamfast travel steam irons recalled by Vornado due to burn risk

Parent company Vornado recalled about 317,000 Steamfast Home & Away Travel Steam Irons and Brookstone Steam Bug Travel Steam Irons in the United States and 5,000 in Canada following 50 reports of incidents with the product, none of which resulted in injury.

The power cord on the steam irons can become damaged near the cord bushing, which can lead to overheating of the cord. This can pose a fire and burn hazard, and the exposed copper wires can also pose a shock hazard.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled irons and visit the Steamfast or Vornado website to register for the recall and receive a refund of $19.99.

Diamond Visions recalls plush monkeys toys due to choking hazard

On April 27, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website published a recall for about 6,000 Diamond Visions plush monkeys due to the toys posing a choking hazard.

Diamond Visions sold the recalled monkey toys at independent hardware and variety stores nationwide from September 2021 through November 2022 for about $6. The front paws of the plush monkey have Velcro so that the monkey’s arms can be wrapped around a consumer’s neck. “Model TM-3280” and “Diamond Visions Inc.” are printed on a tag on the monkey.

The eyes on the toys can detach, posing a small-part choking hazard to children. There have been no injuries so far. Consumers should immediately take the recalled toys away from children and contact Diamond Visions for instructions on how to receive a full refund.
