Several popular companies, retailers and manufacturers announced recalls last week for products that may pose a risk of injury to consumers. Here are Top Class Actions’ top recalls for the week of Feb. 19.

Raw cheddar products recalled due to potential E. coli contamination

Raw Farms announced a recall of its raw cheddar products, including 8- and 16-ounce cheese blocks with batch codes of 20231113-1 or older and 8-ounce raw shredded cheddar cheese with batch codes of 20240116 or older.

The company initiated the recall over E. coli contamination concerns, the recall notice states. The raw cheddar items may have caused illnesses between Oct. 18, 2023, and Jan. 31, 2024, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Fecal samples from 10 patients across four states showed matching strains during the specified time frame, according to the recall notice. The FDA and CDC did not detect E. coli contamination in any cheese consumed or available for sale; however, the investigation is still ongoing.

Raw Farms advises consumers not to consume the affected raw cheddar cheese and encourages them to return the products for a refund, the recall notice says.

Customers with concerns or inquiries can contact Raw Farms’ customer service at 559-846-9732 or via email at [email protected] or [email protected].

Dole announces salad recall related to national dairy recall

Dole initiated a salad recall involving products produced on the same line as cheese implicated in a Rizo-López Foods dairy recall due to potential listeria contamination.

The recalled products, under Dole, President’s Choice and Marketside brands, include various salad kits distributed across multiple states in the United States and several provinces in Canada, the recall notice states. The affected kits include varieties such as Dole Chopped Kit Avocado Ranch, Premium Kit Southwest Salad, Cajun Ranch Chopped Kit and others.

Listeria can cause severe infections, particularly in vulnerable populations. Symptoms for healthy individuals may include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Dole has not received any reports of illness related to the affected products, according to the recall notice.

Waymo issues voluntary recall notices on software after driverless car accidents

Waymo initiated a recall following two separate accidents involving Waymo vehicles colliding with the same improperly towed pickup truck.

The incidents occurred Dec. 11, 2023, in Phoenix and involved a towed vehicle positioned across a center turn lane and traffic lane, the recall notice states. After the first accident, the tow truck failed to pull over, leading to a second collision with another Waymo vehicle. Waymo attributes the inaccuracies in predicting the towed pickup’s trajectory to its unusual positioning.

There were no passengers in the Waymo vehicles, the accidents caused minor damage, according to the recall notice. Following an investigation, Waymo implemented a software update Dec. 20 to address the issues related to the crashes.

Hyundai recalls Genesis vehicles due to engine fire risk

Hyundai issued a recall for more than 90,000 Genesis vehicles due to concerns a potential electrical short in the starter motor could lead to engine compartment fires.

The recall encompasses specific models and model years, including 2015-2016 Hyundai Genesis, 2017-2019 Genesis G80, Genesis G90 and 2019 Genesis G70 vehicles, according to the notice. Hyundai attributes the risk of an electrical short in the starter solenoid to potential water contamination, particularly if owners operate the vehicles in unusually wet conditions.

Hyundai advises vehicle owners to continue driving the recalled Genesis vehicles but to park them outside and away from structures until the necessary recall remedy is completed, the recall notice states.

To address the issue, Hyundai dealers will install a relay kit in the engine junction box of the affected vehicles free of charge irrespective of whether the vehicles are still covered under Hyundai’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty. The company will also reimburse affected vehicle owners for any out-of-pocket expenses.

Hyundai says plans to notify both dealers and vehicle owners about the recall April 13, according to the recall notice.

This recall comes amid a broader National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation, covering 16 recalls involving a total of 6.4 million Hyundai and Kia vehicles due to fire hazard concerns.

Chrysler recalls various Jeep models due to defrost defect

Chrysler initiated a recall affecting almost 200,000 Jeep plug-in hybrid electric vehicles due to concerns about a potential defect in the hybrid control processor software.

Specifically, the software may have been incorrectly programmed, posing a risk of disabling the windshield defrost system under certain conditions, the recall notice says.

The recall involves 139,318 model year 2021-2024 Jeep Wrangler Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle SUVs and 59,825 model year 2022-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle SUVs.

The defective windshield defrost system could potentially compromise outward visibility, leading to an increased risk of a crash without prior warning, according to the recall notice. Chrysler plans to update the hybrid control processor software on the affected Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee SUVs to ensure compliance with federal safety standards.
