Scholastic recalls Shake Look Touch children’s books

On July 7, the U.S. Product Safety Commission website posted a recall notice for about 185,700 Scholastic books in the United States and about 1,500 in Canada.

The plush Shake Look Touch books feature touch and feel components for young children, including pink and green pom poms with a string that could detach and pose a choking hazard to young children.

There have been two reports of the pom poms detaching, and no injuries reported so far, according to the recall notice. Consumers are encouraged to cut off the pom poms and register and submit a picture to www.recallrtr.com/slt to receive a $10 gift card. Consumers can continue to use the book after disposing of the pom poms.

Big Olaf ice cream, A&M Farms linked to listeria outbreak

On July 2, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and other public health and regulatory officials announced they were investigating a multistate outbreak of listeria monocytogenes infections.

There have been 23 illnesses, 22 hospitalizations and one death related to the listeria outbreak so far. Six people who became ill reported eating Big Olaf Creamery brand ice cream. As a result, Big Olaf in Sarasota, Florida, voluntarily contacted retailers and advised them against selling the product. Consumers are encouraged to throw away any of the products as well.

Similarly, A&M Farms of Lyons, Georgia, voluntarily recalled Little Bear brand Vidalia onions packed between June 20 and June 23, 2022, because of potential listeria monocytogene contamination. Consumers can identify the recalled onions by the purchase location, PLU 4159 and the Little Bear brand on the PLU sticker and are encouraged to dispose of the onions or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Toyota Tundra, Ford Bronco, Rangers vehicles recalled

The National Highway Transport Safety Administration (NHTSA) released a recall notice June 23 for 46,176 2022 Toyota Tundra and Tundra Hybrid automobiles.

The vehicles had defective flange nuts on the axle shaft sub-assemblies, which can loosen over time. This could potentially result in one or both axle shaft subassemblies separating from the axle housing, which can cause a loss of vehicle stability and brake performance and increase the risk of a crash.

Consumers can take their vehicles to a dealership for an inspection of the rear axle assembly where technicians will tighten the axle flange nuts and replace any damaged axle-related components if necessary free of charge.

Ford also issued recalls for its 2022 model year Bronco and Ranger vehicles. A faulting bonding in the windshields led to 39,063 Broncos and 24,321 Rangers being recalled.

The defect can lead to the windshields detaching, along with potential issues of extra wind noise and or water leaks. Consumers are encouraged to take their vehicles to the nearest dealership for a free reinstallment of their windshields.

Toyota and Ford were also involved in top recalls last week due to defects in their BZ4X and F-150 Lightning vehicles.

Enjoy Life bakery products recalled due to hard, plastic pieces

On June 30, Enjoy Life Natural Brands recalled 13 baked snacks products sold throughout the United Statesand Canada.

The recall applies to certain cookies, chewy bars, breakfast ovals and brownie bites sold under the Enjoy Life brand that were found to contain hard plastic pieces through internal quality assurance surveillance. The full list of recalled products is available here.

No injuries or illnesses have been reported, but consumers are encouraged to throw out the product and keep any packaging, then contact the company at 1-855-543-5335 to get more information about how to receive a refund.

Various wet wipe brand names recalled throughout the UK

Parent company Vernacare has recalled a number of brand name wet wipes across the UK due to potential bacteria contamination.

The recall applies to wet wipes sold under brand names Caremore, CCN/Medirite, CHL, Countrywide, Fairfield and Fittleworth that are contaminated with the bacterial pseudomonas aeruginosa. Pseudomonas aeruginosa can cause infections in humans.

While Vernacare is investigating the root cause of the contamination, consumers are encouraged to not use the products and return them to Vernacare.
