  • Who: Spirit Halloween is recalling one of its light fixtures
  • Why: The company has received reports of the bulbs popping and catching fire
  • Where: United States

Spirit Halloween has issued a black light recall of more than 12,000 fixtures after receiving multiple reports of bulbs popping and catching fire, with one customer reporting a burn injury.

The recall was posted June 9 on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission website.

It applies to about 12,400 Spirit Halloween 48-inch black light fixtures and bulbs.

“The bulb in the fixture can pop, flash and overheat, posing fire and burn hazards,” the recall states.

The recall comes after the firm received seven reports of bulbs popping, flashing and catching on fire or smoking, including one mild burn injury.

Customers can get a full refund

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled black light fixtures and contact Spirit Halloween for a full refund,” the recall states.

Consumers should send a photo of the date code to the firm and then will receive a full refund and instructions on how to destroy and dispose of the product.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

The product was sold at Spirit Halloween stores nationwide and online at www.spirithalloween.com from August 2021 through November 2021 for about $35.

The light’s housing is black and has a 48-inch black light bulb.

The date code 2021/06 is printed on the bottom of the unit. The model number LT-B48P and SKU number 01536721 is printed on the packaging. The unit plugs into a standard outlet and has an on/off switch located on the power cord.

In 2020, a Spirit Halloween flashlight for kids was recalled over a burn hazard, according to a Health Canada notice. The batteries in the product could overheat, the agency said.
