Aruba Aloe Balm N.V. is recalling 40 lots of its Aruba Aloe Hand Sanitizer Gel Alcohol 80% and Aruba Aloe Alcoholada Gel because the products contain unsafe levels of methanol.
The Aruba Aloe recall covers hand sanitizer sold in a 12-ounce dark green plastic bottle with lot codes 25344, 25828, 26057, 26471, 26754, 26821, 27518, 28392, 24759, 25160, 25580, 26195, 27005, 27927 and 28176.
The recalled Alcoholada gel comes in 2.2- and 8.5-ounce bottles with lot codes 25253, 25976, 26150, 26473, 26553, 26696, 27318, 27481, 27660, 27839, 28121, 28152, 28281, 28355, 28761, 29088, 29510, 29558, 29728, 30086, 30339 and 30563.
The products were sold in the U.S. via the Aruba Aloe Balm N.V. website between May 1, 2021, and Oct. 27, 2023, according to the Aruba Aloe hand sanitizer recall.
Methanol can lead to nausea, vomiting, headache, blurred vision, coma, seizures, permanent blindness, permanent damage to the central nervous system or death, according to the aloe recall.
Customers using the products on their hands are at risk; however, young children who accidentally ingest the products and adolescents and adults who drink these products as an alcohol (ethanol) substitute are at highest risk for methanol poisoning, the hand sanitizer recall says.

Aruba Aloe Balm N.V. says it has not received any reports of adverse effects related to the recall so far. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
The company asks all customers to stop using the Aruba Aloe hand sanitizer products. According to the aloe recall, Aruba Aloe Balm N.V. has contacted all customers who purchased the recalled items via email and offered a discount coupon. Aruba Aloe can be reached at recall@arubaaloe.com.
