Toyota Camry Recall Overview:
- Who: Toyota Motor North America.
- Why: The automaker is recalling 234,000 Camry midsize sedans due to an issue with the power braking assist.
- Where: Toyota Camrys are being recalled across North America.
Toyota Motor North America is recalling 243,00 2018 and 2019 Camry midsize sedans globally due to a fault that can lead to a sudden loss of power braking assist.
In the US, approximately 227,400 vehicles are involved in the recall.
Toyota says the affected vehicles have a system that provides power brake assist when the driver depresses the brake pedal in its recall notice.
“Specific components in a part of this system can prematurely wear and could lead to a wear and could lead to a sudden loss of power braking assist. Non-power assisted braking will remain functional. However, a sudden loss of power braking assist while driving could increase the risk of a crash,” the notice reads.
Toyota declined to comment to Automotive News on whether it was aware of any injuries, accidents or deaths related to the condition.
Toyota Camry Owners To Be Notified of Recall
In the recall notice, the automaker said it would notify Camry owners of involved vehicles by mid-January 2022. The automaker said Toyota dealers would inspect the vacuum pump of affected vehicles and repair or replace it, free of charge to customers.

Toyota is currently facing a number of lawsuits, including a class action accusing it of falsely advertising how much fuel its RAV4 Hybrid vehicles hold. Drivers say the cars’ fuel tanks have a defect that prevents them holding as much fuel as advertised, meaning more stops at the gas station. Toyota, however, says having to stop more frequently at a gas station isn’t an injury covered by law.

Add me. My mother in law died after sustaining injuries in a Toyota Camry Hybrid. The vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed, and the brakes failed to work.
