ProSobee formula recall overview:

  • Who: Reckitt recalled two batches of ProSobee 12.9 oz. Simply Plant Based Infant Formula.
  • Why: The product is possibly cross-contaminated with cronobacter sakazakii.
  • Where: The recall is active in the United States, Guam and Puerto Rico.

Reckitt recalled about 145,000 cans of ProSobee 12.9 oz. Simply Plant Based Infant Formula as the product is possibly cross-contaminated with cronobacter sakazakii.

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) website published the recall Feb. 20. It applies to ProSobee Simply Plant-Based Infant Formula in 12.9 oz. containers manufactured between Aug. 2022 and Sept. 2022. Reckitt distributed the product through retail stores nationwide in the United States, Guam and Puerto Rico.

According to the formula recall, Reckitt chose to voluntarily recall two select batches of ProSobee 12.9 oz. Simply Plant-Based Infant Formula. While Reckitt says it extensively tested all distributed products, which tested negative for the bacteria, it initiated the recall out of an abundance of caution.

“We are committed to the highest level of quality and safety and it is for this reason that we have taken this extraordinary measure,” Reckitt says. “The batches in question tested negative for Cronobacter and other bacteria and this is an isolated situation. After a thorough investigation, we have identified the root cause, which was linked to a material from a third party. We have taken all appropriate corrective actions, including no longer sourcing this material from the supplier.”

Consumers can return product for full refund, ProSobee recall states

No illnesses or adverse events have been reported at the date of recall, Reckitt says. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Consumers who purchased ProSobee Simply Plant-Based Infant Formula should check the bottom of the can to identify whether the batch number is affected, the ProSobee recall notice states. Consumers should dispose of or return products with batch codes ZL2HZF and ZL2HZZ with a UPC Code of 300871214415 and a “Use By Date” of “1 Mar 2024.”

In other infant formula news, last year, Mead Johnson & Co. agreed to a $8.4 million false advertising class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims it inflated the number of bottles its Enfamil baby formula products could make.
