tonies Blocks, DigitDots Magnet Ingestion Hazard Recall Overview:

  • Who: Boxine U.S. and HD Premier have issued a recall for around 4,200 tonies Blocks and about 119,620 DigitDots Magnetic Balls, respectively.
  • Why: The recalls were both initiated over concerns the toys could pose a magnet ingestion hazard.
  • Where: The toys were recalled nationwide.

A pair of recalls have been initiated over ingestion concerns in magnetic toys manufactured by Boxine U.S. and HD Premier.

Boxine issued a recall for around 4,200 of its tonies Blocks on Mar. 24, while HD Premier recalled about 119,620 of its DigitDots Magnetic Balls on Mar. 17.

The recalls were initiated after Boxine and HD Premier became concerned a child could accidentally or intentionally ingest high-powered magnets contained within the toys.

Boxine’s recall involves its 5 cm wide and 1.5 cm thick tonies wooden blocks, which have magnets inside of them.

Included in the recall are tonies Blocks Marine Life with a UPC code of 840147407689, tonies Blocks Invention and Innovation with a UPC code of 840147407733 and tonies Blocks Gentle Giant Dinos with a UPC of code 840147407580.

The affected tonies Blocks were sold in sets of four in the colors blue, green and tan and contain a picture of a dinosaur or marine animal, according to the recall.

Boxine says the blocks also contain the words invention and innovation on one side with white text on the other that describes the picture.

The blocks are packaged in a white and red cardboard box with the UPC code printed beneath the barcode on the back, according to the recall notice published by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

There has been one instance of a magnet detaching itself from the product, which the company says it is remotely deactivating; however, no injuries have been reported, according to the recall.

Boxine is instructing consumers to immediately stop using the recalled tonies Blocks and to contact tonies directly to receive a full refund and a coupon code worth $14.99.

Consumers who want to begin the refund process can do so through tonies’ website while those who want more information can contact the company directly through email or phone at 877-397-7898.

tonies will also directly contact anyone who purchased the product, according to the recall.

HD Premier Recalls DigitDots Magnetic Balls Sized 3 mm, 5 mm

HD Premier’s recall, meanwhile, involves its 3 mm and 5 mm sized DigitDots Magnetic Balls, which are multi-colored and sold as individual magnets.

The 3mm sized magnetic balls are sold in sets of 512 while the 5mm size are sold in sets of either 222 silver or 224 multi-colored magnetic balls, according to the recall notice published by the CPSC.

HD Premier says the affected products were sold in clear and disposable packaging with a plastic carrying case, both of which bear the DigitDots name and logo.

Consumers are being advised to immediately stop using the product and to contact HD Premier directly in order to get a prepaid label that will facilitate a return for a full refund.

HD Premier says it is aware of four instances of children ingesting DigitDots who needed surgery to have them removed.

A separate recall involving a toy was initiated earlier this month by B. Toys, which recalled 17,200 of its Wooden Activity Walker — Walk ‘n’ Learn walkers over concerns the wheels and wheel attachment could detach from the product and become a choking hazard.

In 2021, meanwhile, millions of Zen and Neoballs magnets were recalled after two children ingested them and needed surgery to have them removed.
