london bridge socks with rattlesThe United States Consumer Product Safety Commission has reported that London Bridge, a maker of baby clothes, is voluntarily recalling around 7,500 wrist and sock rattle sets.

According to the CPSC, the products are baby socks and wrist bands with small rattles sewn into the wristband and into the toe of each sock.

The Safety Commission says that the products were recalled because the rattles inside the socks and wristbands can detach, and young children may be able to choke on them.

The London Bridge rattle set socks and wristbands are intended for children ages zero to six months old. They come in a number of styles and colors, with themes including sports, animals, and strawberries.

The item numbers of affected products include LB5000, LB5001, LB5002, LB5003, LB5004, LB5005, LB5006 and LB5007. The products have the date code October 2018 and are Batch #608315.

The product tag bears the London Bridge brand logo and name, as well as the product name “Baby Wrist Rattle and Rattle Sock Set 0-6 months.”

The products were sold at independent boutique stores around the country between January 2017 and May 2019 for around $7, says the Safety Commission. They were manufactured in China and were imported by Maison Chic of Atlanta, Georgia.

London Bridge describes itself as a baby, toddler, and children’s gift boutique that brings “unique and quaint” gifts to customers.

The CPSC advises parents to stop using the products immediately, and to take them away from children. The Safety Commission also notes that parents can return the products to the store where they purchased them for a full refund.

Parents can also contact London Bridge, the makers of the products, for a full refund, at (800) 653-5048, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or by email at support@MaisonChicOnline.com.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall number for the Baby Wrist Rattle and Rattle Sock Set is 19-178

Maison Chic also provides more information about the recall on their website, www.MaisonChicOnline.com.

The socks and wrist rattle set recall was instituted after one consumer reported that the rattle came detached from the products. This caused worry that the problem could be more widespread and that the product could pose a choking hazard to babies.

The company reportedly conducted the recall voluntarily, as part of the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Fast Track recall process. The program speeds up the recall process, and allows the company to work with the Safety Commission on the recall.

Defective products can pose a serious danger to the public, and recalls help limit the danger of possibly defective products. In some cases, the government will mandate a recall, while in others, a company can voluntarily recall a product over concerns that it is defective or dangerous.
