Built Banana Cream Pie Puffs E. coli recall overview:

  • Who: Built Brands has voluntarily recalled more than 4,000 individual bars of its “Banana Cream Pie Puffs” protein bar.
  • Why: The company initiated the recall over concerns the product was contaminated with pathogenic E. coli.
  • Where: The recall is nationwide.

Built Brands initiated a voluntary recall for more than 4,000 individual bars of its “Banana Cream Pie Puffs” protein bar over concerns they have been contaminated with pathogenic E. coli.

The company initiated the recall after routine testing done by a third-party laboratory at Built’s request detected the presence of the bacteria, according to a recall notice published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on June 14.

Built says it distributed the recalled Banana Cream Pie Puffs, which came in a 40-gram package with a lot number of D22151011, nationwide to more than 1,000 potential customers who had ordered them by mail.

Potential customers would have received the affected Banana Cream Pie Puffs bars after June 6, according to the Built recall.

Built recall says E. coli contamination ‘isolated incident’

Built says there have been no reports of illnesses connected to the recall and that testing results on similar products it produces revealed that the contamination was an “isolated incident.”

It blames the E. coli contamination on the company likely failing to follow Good Manufacturing Practice, according to the recall notice.

Consumers who purchased the recalled product are urged to contact Built directly by email to obtain either a full refund or a replacement bar.

In similar news, in April, Lakeside Refrigerated Services recalled around 120,872 pounds of its ground beef products over concerns they had been contaminated with E. coli
