General Electric (GE) issued a recall for approximately 11,000 of its JP3030 knob-control radiant cooktops because the cooktops can remain on after use, even when turned off, due to misaligned burner knob stems and fractured burner knob components.

The GE recall includes cooktops manufactured from July 2022 to September 2022 with serial numbers beginning with LT, MT, RT or ST.

Those include model nos. JP3030DJ4BB, JP3030SJ4SS and JP3030TJ4WW.

GE offering free replacement burner assembly, recall states

GE says it has not received any reports of injury related to the recall but did receive 83 reports of the burner failing to regulate properly or turn off, according to the recall notice.

The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

GE is offering free installation of a replacement burner knob assembly. Until then, when not in use, the GE recall advises consumers to turn the unit off at the circuit breaker and not leave flammable materials or empty cookware on or near the cooktop.

Consumers can reach GE at (877) 261-1509 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday to Friday or online.
