November vehicle recalls overview:

  • Who: Ford, Volkswagen, Audi, Tesla, General Motors and Kia initiated vehicle recalls during November.
  • Why: The automakers issued the recalls due to fire risk, defective lights and windshield wipers, potentially faulty tire pressure monitoring systems and a potential steering issue.
  • Where: The recalls are effective nationwide.

Automakers including Ford, Volkswagen, Audi, Tesla, General Motors and Kia initiated recalls for some of their vehicles during the month of November to resolve issues with safety and defective parts.

A vehicle manufacturer may choose to issue a recall if it is in the best interest of safety for drivers, passengers, pedestrians and/or other vehicles on the road.

The automakers issued the vehicle recalls due to a fire risk, defective lights and windshield wipers, potentially faulty tire pressure monitoring systems and a potential issue with steering.

Ford adds estimated 550,000 F-150 pickup trucks to defective windshield wiper recall

Ford Motor Company expanded an already existing recall concerning defective windshield wipers last month by including an additional estimated 550,000 model year 2021 Ford F-150 pickup trucks.

The expanded recall, which was made over concerns the motor for the vehicles’ front windshield wiper may stop working, included 2021 Ford F-150 pickup trucks sold in the United States and Canada.

Ford initially issued the recall, which included more than 157,000 of its Ford F-150 pickup trucks, after determining the issue could cause reduced visibility under certain conditions, increasing the risk of an accident.

VW, Audi recall more than 225,000 vehicles over faulty TPMS system concerns

Also last month, Volkswagen and Audi recalled more than 225,000 vehicles over concerns they contain faulty tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) that don’t alert drivers quickly enough in the event their tires lose pressure at the same rate.

VW said that the TPMS systems will still alert a driver in the event their tire pressure is dangerously low; however, the speed with which it does so is not fast enough as mandated by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

The recall affects certain vehicles ranging from a model year between 2019 and 2021, including Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles and 2019 and 2020 Audi A3 vehicles, among others.

Tesla recalls more than 40,000 Model X, S vehicles over power assist steering function concerns

Tesla, meanwhile, announced it recalled more than 40,000 of its model year 2017 to 2021 Model X and Model S vehicles over concerns their power assist steering functions could fail if driven on rough roads or over potholes

“Reduced or lost power steering assist does not affect steering control but could require greater steering effort from the driver, particularly at low speeds,” the Tesla recall states.

Tesla, which notified drivers of the issue through their vehicle’s instrument cluster, said it released an over-the-air software update to recalibrate the vehicles’ power steering system.

GM issues recall for more than 330,000 SUVs due to daytime running light issues

Also in November, General Motors issued a recall for more than 330,000 of its SUVs after determining their daytime running lights may not properly deactivate when the headlights are turned on.

GM warned drivers that daytime running lights that fail to deactivate when the headlights on the recalled vehicles are turned on can “cause a glare,” in turn “reducing visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.”

The GM recall was for its model year 2021 Cadillac Escalade, Cadillac Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles.

Kia recalls more than 71,000 Sportage vehicles over spontaneous fire risk

Kia, meanwhile, issued a recall for more than 71,000 of its model year 2008-2009 Kia Sportage vehicles over concerns they can spontaneously catch on fire when either parked or driving.

Kia advised owners of the recalled Kia Sportage vehicles to park them outside and away from other vehicles or structures until the automaker can perform a recall repair.

I have a 2016 Kia Soul SX LUXURY that apparently needs a NEW ENGINE at 143,000kms because of a WELL KNOWN issue with the engine burning oil. All my service for the first 100,000kms + kms was done AT KIA DEALERSHIP! THIS is BS! NO WAY should we need new engines to the tune of $10,000 on a car that is still fairly new?! I also have issues with most of the front end and rear suspension in this car. I have had alot of suspension work done under warranty and now am looking at needing what we believe are ball joints on both sides in the front. I gave up and walked out of the mechanics office when I was told the only way to fox the burning oil issue is to put a new engine in it! There were suddenly puddles of what I believe to be coolant on Christmas eve 2022 as ot was bright yellow but was coming from 1/2-2/3 the way down the car, not under the engine itself. The car was bought brand new for me as a gift by my father to help me as I’m on disability and depend on my vehicle to get to drs appts as well as all my therapy appts. We dropped over $300,000 in a matter of a few months as a family at the same dealership incase any one of us had issues with the 8 cars our family bought. They haven’t done anything for me. Now I’m relying on my 74 years old mother and her 2006 Chev Malibu to get us around while my 2016 Kia Soul Sx Luxury sits in the driveway. Feel free to contact me!

No potholes were hit i walked in a store car was fine got back in my car and air bag light was on. I’ve read that there are recalls for it but not for my year model. Also my ABS light is on I had a personal mechanic tell me its more than likely the motor but over the past year I’ve been unable to locate a replacement anywhere.
