GM SUV recall overview:

- Why: The daytime running lights may not deactivate when the headlights are on.
- Where: The GM SUV recall is active in the United States.
General Motors (GM) has issued a recall of more than 330,000 SUVs, as the vehicles have an issue with their running lights that can increase the risk of a crash.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) posted the recall notice Nov. 3. It applies to 338,735 of its 2021 Yukon, Yukon XL, Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, Cadillac Escalade and Cadillac Escalade ESV vehicles.
According to the recall, the daytime running lights on the recalled vehicles may not deactivate when the headlights are on.
“Daytime Running Lights that do not deactivate as intended may cause a glare, reducing visibility and increasing the risk of a crash,” the automaker says.
GM SUV recall issue picked up by internal testing, automaker says
This issue was submitted to GM’s Speak Up For Safety program Aug. 30, 2022, following future vehicle validation testing that led to discovery of the condition in 2021 model year SUVs, the automaker said. GM opened an investigation Sept. 16, 2022.
GM says it has no reports of any crashes or injuries caused by the problem so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
Dealers will update the recalled vehicles’ software, free of charge, according to the GM SUV recall. GM expects to mail owner notification letters Dec. 19, 2022.
In related GM news, a judge ordered the automaker to pay more than $100 million to classes of vehicle owners who argue the company sold vehicles with defective engines.

I have 2017 Cadillac XT5. I’m having issues with a bad thermostat at 97k miles. (And possibly before that, however, it has reached its failure point). My warranty just ended in January. I now learned GMC issued an All Servicer memo about the issue and agreed to repair the issue free as long as vehicle covered under power train warranty. However dealerships are charging $1200 and up. In addition, I was not made aware of the memo until after it was too late to use my warranty. Dealers failed to share with their customers the possible issues to look for such as fan continuing to run after car turned off, steering assist warnings, check engine light coming on then going out (took mine in for this several times), intermittent a/c issues. GMC refuses to recall although they are aware of the issues and the financial harm it causes.
