Chrysler Pacifica recall overview:

  • Who: Stellantis has announced that it is recalling 76,000 of its model year 2017-2023 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans sold in the U.S. and abroad.
  • Why: The recall was initiated over concerns the vehicles’ could suffer a short circuit that would lead to an unexpected engine shutdown.
  • Where: The recall is nationwide and abroad.

Stellantis announced Tuesday that the automaker is recalling 76,000 of its plug-in hybrid electric minivans over concerns they could suffer a short circuit that would cause their engine to unexpectedly stall.

The recall includes 67,000 of Stellantis’ model year 2017-2023 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans in the U.S, as well as around 9,000 of the vehicles sold abroad, Reuters reported.

Stellantis has reportedly attributed the recall to an issue with internal transmission wiring that the automaker worries could lead to a short circuit that would cause the vehicle’s engine to unexpectedly shut down.

The automaker said it has been made aware of a total of six customer assistance records, 59 field reports and 242 warranty claims that could potentially be related to the issue behind the recall, reports Reuters.

Stellantis has reportedly said it has not been made aware of any injuries or accidents that would be connected to the recall.

Internal review shows 0.2% of vehicle population has had a reported stall issue

An internal review of the vehicle population, meanwhile, discovered 0.2% have been associated with reported issues with stalling, Reuters reported.

Stellantis reportedly said it is planning to remedy the issue by updating the vehicles’ power inverter software, and, if necessary, updating instrument panel cluster software.

Pacifica Hybrid vehicle owners who would like more information about the recall can check the National Highway Traffic Safety Adminstration (NHTSA) recalls website.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles US — a subsidiary of Stellantis — agreed to a class action settlement last year to resolve claims that some of its Chrysler Pacifica vehicles could unexpectedly and without warning lose power and end up stalling.

The class action settlement was made to benefit current and former owners or lessees of model 2017-2021 Chrysler Pacifica vehicles — originally sold by the company in the U.S. — that had been equipped with a 3.6-liter V6 engine and a 9-speed transmission.

I am going into 2 years owning a 2021 Pacifica Hybird and I am so disappointed and unhappy with Chrysler…. I have been back and forth to the dealer non stop where I purchased the vehicle and nothing
has fixed my issue…. I even followed through with the recall postcard that was sent to my residence and still they haven’t been amén to fix my issue…. I have had my check engine light on going onto pass a year & waiting for a loaner as well from the dealer they same amount of time …

I can’t charge my car nor use the remote start..

While the cat is idle… stop sign, traffic, red light… the car jerks non stop with the feeling it is about to shut off…

    What do I do????

I have owned a plug-in hybrid Chevy Volt for 4 years and loved it. It has 140,000 on it and going strong. I love the super quiet and yet sporty drive of plug-ins.
When the plug-in Pacificas came out I was really excited. It was like the Volt but seats 7 instead of 4. I thought I would let them break in and work out the kinks and come down in price and buy a used one later.
After staying home for 2 years during COVID-19, as a single mom, I needed to return to work, teaching and knew I would need a larger more fuel efficient car for me and my 6 kids. I started looking for a hybrid Pacifica.
In April I found one in my price range in California. It was a 2018 with 140,000 for $22,000. That’s 35,000 a year; so it didn’t have a lot of miles on the battery… It had to be a lot of highway miles. I went and test drove it. The local Chrysler dealer in California did a thorough inspection of it finding nothing wrong other than It had squeaky front struts; other than that it was my dream car!
I figured the bugs had been found and fixed by now, 2022. I took out a loan and drove it home. Even on gas only it was wonderful!
At the end of the summer I replaced the squeaky struts for $1200.
I never received a letter or any notification of the recall, even though my van has been serviced at the American Fork dealer.

When it got cold the heat intermittently stopped working and the check engine light came on. It was also charging loud and was disturbing…. With the fire history…I took pictures of my garage and home contents… Just in case.
The dealer service appointment was not available for 3 weeks!
It was in there for 10 days, with very little communication. They said their equipment was out of order and It was very unclear if they did do the recall.
I paid another$1200 to repair the heater, although I haven’t had it long enough to see if that was the real issue or not.
2 days after I picked it up, I had my first non-start. Then a few days later it did it again and left us stranded in a blizzard. I had it towed to the Sandy dealer. They were booked out 2-3 weeks as well…

It never had a nonstart until after it was in the shop.
The recall is a software update that will keep the battery from overheating.
The recall says you will replace the battery.
It never had a nonstart until after the recall was done….it seems that it is preventing it from starting…. To keep it safe.

A recall does not have mileage limitations. Please keep your word and do the right thing and replace the battery under the recall.
At this point I have been without my van for 8 weeks, borrowing cars from friends and family. I want to be able to promote this amazing gas saver… if it works and isn’t made to be disposable and fill up a junk yard because of a design flaw. The battery is still good., it’s just that the short needs fixed.
It has been at the dealer for 3 months now!
