Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) US agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that certain Chrysler Pacifica vehicles can suddenly lose power and can end up stalling.
The Chrysler Pacifica stalling defect lawsuit settlement benefits current and former owners and lessees of model year 2017 to 2021 Chrysler Pacifica vehicles equipped with a 3.6-liter V6 engine and a 9-speed transmission. Eligible vehicles must have originally been sold by FCA in the United States.
Consumers who are plaintiffs in other Pacifica lawsuits are not eligible for the settlement unless they dismiss their lawsuit before final judgment and submit an opt-in-form by Aug. 14, 2023.
FCA is an automotive manufacturer that sells under brands such as Fiat, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram and more. FCA US is owned by Stellantis — one of the “big three” in American car manufacturing.
According to a 2018 class action lawsuit, FCA US sold defective Chrysler Pacifica vehicles starting in 2016.
Plaintiffs in the case say these vehicles are equipped with defective crankshaft position sensors that result in a loss of engine timing. This error allegedly caused the vehicles to suddenly lose power. If the stalling defect occurs while driving, drivers, passengers and other vehicles could be at risk of collisions and injury.
The FCA class action lawsuit argued the company was aware of the issue due to repeated consumer complaints. Despite this fact, FCA US allegedly failed to address the issue or disclose it to drivers.
FCA hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a class action settlement to resolve these allegations. The total settlement amount isn’t available in court documents.
Under the terms of the class action lawsuit settlement, class members have several options based on their experiences with Chrysler Pacifica stalling issues.
Class members who already paid to have their crankshaft position sensor replaced can submit a claim for reimbursement as long as they can provide documentation such as repair orders and receipts. Reimbursement is available for crankshaft position sensor replacements or repairs performed on vehicles more than five years before the settlement date, as long as the vehicle had been driven up to 60,000 miles.
Class members may also choose to file a claim in the settlement’s arbitration program if they wish for FCA to repurchase or replace their vehicle. Eligibility may vary depending on each claimant’s state lemon law — laws that allow consumers to return vehicles in the case of significant, unfixable defects.
Class members can make a repurchase claim within five years after their vehicle was delivered or six months after the settlement approval date, whichever is later.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Nov. 9, 2022.
The final approval hearing for the Chrysler Pacifica stalling defect lawsuit settlement is scheduled for Feb. 15, 2023.
In order to receive benefits from the Chrysler Pacifica settlement, class members must submit a claim within 180 days of the settlement effective date, making the deadline Aug. 21, 2023.

20 thoughts onChrysler Pacifica stalling defect class action lawsuit settlement
I have same.
Any recourse at this point?
2020 Pacifica suddenly stalled and lost power while approaching Raleigh airport terminal. Lost all control of power steering while in heavy traffic. Attempted to restart and lights and display began flashing on and off. I could not turn the Auxiliary off but after a few minutes all power was lost. 10 mins later while waiting on a tow truck the windshield wipers began moving. No power to the dash and unable to rile up windows but wipers continue for 10 mins while
I’m off position.
3 days prior van shut off suddenly while driving when I turned off the Auto Stop button. Lost all power for 1-2 mins and then van started back up and ran fine until the catastrophic incident at the airport
How do we qualify for them to buy it back?
I work at a Chrysler store and was test driving a 2021 Chrysler Pacifica that was in the shop for the above listed problems on several occasions, a vehicle heading in the opposite direction of me lost control of his vehicle and crossed the median heading directly for me, I went to give the vehicle gas to avoid the vehicle but the Chrysler did not respond. I put the gas pedal to the floor but had no response, unfortunately i was struck in the door and suffered life threatening injuries.
I have received the class action notice for my 2017 Pacifica, which stated only to reply if we wanted to opt out. I have had two, $1,000 repairs for the stalling. Both invoices say different items were repaired..one a fuel issue, the other a valve..both I believe were due to the sensor and disguised on the repair bill. What is my recourse for a buy back if the class action isn’t successful. The car will have no resell value as there is no valid replacement for the sensor. Also..is their any recourse put on Chrysler for knowing selling these vehicles with unrepairable parts?
I own a 2020 Pacifica and have experienced no problems. Since an extended warranty is not included in the proposed settlement, is there any reason for me to remain in the class. If I remain in the class and have problem with sensor for example in December 2023 with 40,000 miles, is there any resolution for me,and could I still file suite against Chrysler?
