Ashley Furniture announces recall for Party Time Collection loveseats, sofas, recliners due to fire risk

Ashley Furniture has announced a recall on more than 250,000 pieces of furniture, as the products can overheat due to inbuilt LED lighting. 

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website published the recall June 8. It applies to 253,000 Party Time Collection loveseats, sofas and recliners sold in the United States and about 9,450 sold in Canada. 

According to the recall, the furniture’s cup holder with LED lighting can overheat, posing a fire hazard.

The company is aware of six reports of the cup holder with LED lighting overheating, resulting in fire and smoke damage and damaged furniture, the recall states. 

No injuries have been reported so far, the company says. Ashley is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Free repair available, Ashley Furniture recall states

Consumers should immediately unplug the loveseats, sofas and recliners and contact Ashley Furniture Industries for a free repair, the recall states.

The recalled products are power-reclining faux leather home seating units with power controls, integrated LED lighting and USB charging ports. They come in black and white. View the recalled model numbers on the CSPC website. 

The company sold the products at Ashley Homestores and other furniture stores nationwide and online at ashleyfurniture.com from November 2018 through March 2023 for between $900 and $1,800, according to the recall notice.

A class action lawsuit filed last year alleged Ashley sold a deceptive furniture insurance protection plan that frequently denied coverage. The plaintiff voluntarily dismissed the case in December 2022.
