The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that Quest has recalled ALOCANE Emergency Burn Pads because they fail to meet child resistant closure requirements and therefore pose a risk of poisoning.
According to the CPSC, the packaging for ALOCANE Emergency Burn Pads does not meet the requirements sent forth by the Poison Prevention Act to make them resistant to children.
The pads reportedly contain lidocaine, and pose a possible poisoning risk to children if they were to put a pad in their mouth.
The recall was implemented on Nov. 14, 2019, and affects around 153,000 units. There have been no reported injuries regarding the ALOCANE burn pads.
The recall involves 10 count and 15 count boxes of the ALOCANE Emergency Burn Pads that are sold in a white and red box. The words “MAXIMUM STRENGTH ALOCANE Emergency Burn Pads” are printed on the front.
The affected products have lot numbers 4179, 4180, 4235, 4645, 4646 or 4698 printed next to the barcode on the box. They also have the UPC number 8-46241-02448-7 printed on the bottom of the box.
The products were sold over-the-counter at Walgreens, Target, Kroger, Meijer, and other pharmacies around the country. The pads were also sold online at Alocane.com, MyQuestStore.com, Amazon.com, HomeDepot.com, and Overstock.com. They were sold from March 2018 and June 2019 for around $9.
Customers are advised to immediately stop using the pads, and to store them in a safe location that is out of reach of children. Customers can contact Quest Products to return the pads. In exchange, they will receive a full refund or, if they choose, a free ALOCANE Emergency Burn Gel 2.5 ounce tube that is child resistant.
Customers can contact Quest Products at 800-650-0113 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday. The company can also be reached online at www.alocane.com by clicking on “Contact Us” for more information.
The recall number for the ALOCANE Emergency Burn Pads is 20-019. The products were manufactured and distributed in the U.S. by Quest Products LLC of Pleasant Prairie, Wis.
Customers place trust in manufacturers and retailers to provide products that are safe and effective. Recalls like the ALOCANE recall help keep consumers safe from possibly dangerous and defective products that do not live up to expected standards.
These recalls can also help customers get compensation for a product that they purchased that was subjected to a recall.
ALOCANE is not the only product the has been recently recalled over concerns that it could pose injury to children. In August, the CPSC announced that H&M voluntarily recalled children’s cotton pajamas because they did not meet flammability standards for children’s sleepwear.
