The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission announces that Norwex has recalled their rubber brooms because the product may break in half causing a laceration hazard.

The affected brooms were made by Norwex USA Inc., of Coppell, Texas, and were manufactured in China.

According to the CPSC, the broom handles can break in half, which exposes a metal inner rim. Reportedly, this metal rim can pose a danger to consumers, because it can cause injury to the user.

The Norwex rubber broom recall was issued on Aug. 22, 2019, and affects around 58,000 units of the rubber broom.

The CPSC goes on to describe the brooms as white rubber brooms that can be used both indoors and outdoors. They adjust in height from 30.7 inches to 40.6 inches. The plastic head that covers the rubber bristles bears the “Norwex” logo. The brooms are also embossed with date stamp codes on the lock base and screw joint. Affected brooms are embossed with the date stamp codes of 18/9, 18/10, 18/11, or 18/12.

The rubber brooms were sold at Norwex Consultant events and parties, through direct order, and sold online at Norwex.biz between January 2019 and June 2019. They were sold for around $30 each.

The rubber broom recall was initiated after Norwex received 41 reports of the broom’s handle breaking during use. In the 41 breakage accounts, the company received six reports of consumers suffering minor injuries to their hands or fingers allegedly caused by the handle.

The CPSC notes that the recall was conducted voluntarily by Norwex, as part of the CPSC’s Fast Track Recall Process.

The CPSC advises that consumers should stop using their brooms immediately, and should contact Norwex. Affected consumers may be eligible for a full refund.

Customers can call Norwex toll-free at 833-882-5569 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday, or from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Customers can also contact the company via email at USnorwexservice@norwex.com, or online at Norwex.biz by clicking on “Product Recalls,” where they can find more information.

The CPSC recall number for the Norwex rubber brooms is 19-771.
