Recall Alert: 145K Kia Souls and Seltos Recalled for Engine Fire Risk

Late-model Kia Seltos and Souls are the focus of a recall notice issued Monday concerning an engine problem that can lead to stalling or even fire.

In their fourth fire-related recall of the year, Kia says that the vehicle safety problem originates with the oil rings in 125,400 model year 2020 and 2021 Souls and 21,849 model year 2021 Seltos. The part is too hard, according to the recall notice issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and can potentially cause engine damage and excessive oil consumption.

Warning signs include an engine knock or the oil light turning on in the dashboard. Continued operation of Kia’s exhibiting these problems could cause further damage and even a puncture in the engine block. The puncture could leak oil into the exhaust, presenting the risk of an engine fire, warns the automaker.

Indeed, four reports of engine fires led to the recall of the Kia Souls and Kia Seltos, says the recall notice. Owners will begin to be notified by the automaker in June. Owners can take their recalled Kias to a dealership for a free inspection and, if necessary, repair.

Although this is not a class action lawsuit, Top Class Actions monitors potentially dangerous vehicle recalls to keep consumers informed of potential vehicle safety defects.

This warning, recently issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), adds to the growing list of Kia and Hyundai vehicles recalled over fire risks. Hyundai is a different automaker, but is owned by the same parent company as Kia and many of their vehicles share the same design, parts, and engineering.

Indeed, a number of Kia and Hyundai vehicles have been subject to fire risk recalls recently. In December, Kia announced that the company would be recalling almost 300,000 vehicles over a risk of fire in the engine compartment. At the same time, 130,000 Hyundais were recalled over stalling and engine fires after more than 3,100 engine fires were reported, some involving injuries and one resulting in death.

Consumers can check to see if their vehicle has been recalled on the NHTSA website.

2018 Kia Soul – engine replaced once already in 2021. Drove a rental for 2 months. Now the “check engine” light just came on again. Local Kia dealership is not helping. Please … is there an attorney to help us. Why were we left out of the class action?

I don’t understand why the 2015 kia should were left out of the class action lawsuit even though they’re faulty as well! So many recalls and no way am I talking it in to let this local dealer mess with it! My soul was new when purchased and the 3rd kid I’ve owned but no more. I’m done. Please can someone take up the class action? Or get me an attorney to file suit against them!
