Apple, Hyundai, DeVry University, GoDaddy and more are paying out millions to settle class action lawsuit allegations that impact consumers nationwide.

Apple iPhone Performance Class Action Settlement

Apple has agreed to pay up to $500 million to iPhone owners who experienced slower performance in older models.

The Apple class action lawsuit claimed that iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7 and 7 Plus devices were intentionally throttled as a way to encourage customers to upgrade to a newer model.

Apple denies the allegations but agreed to pay between $310 million and $500 million to end the class action lawsuit.

IPhone owners can get $25 per device from this class action settlement.

File a claim no later than Oct. 6, 2020.

Five Below Data Breach Class Action Settlement

A class action settlement is now accepting claims for several data breaches that occurred on the Five Below website.

Class Members include those who made an online purchase at FiveBelow.com on Aug. 14, 2018; Aug. 28, 2018; from Sept. 18, 2018 through Sept. 19, 2018; and from Nov. 13, 2018 through Jan. 11, 2019.

Five Below customers can make a claim for up to $250 for any out-of-pocket expenses incurred because of the data breach. In addition, consumers can claim $20 per hour for time spent dealing with the data breach. Class Members also can get a $22 payout for each credit or debit card impacted by the Five Below data breaches.

File a claim by Oct. 9, 2020 to benefit from this settlement.

Hyundai Engine Failure Class Action Rebates

Hyundai vehicle owners and lessees can get repair reimbursements, warranty extensions, goodwill payments, and class action rebates from an engine failure class action settlement.

hyundai sonata smart trunkVehicles covered by the settlement include: 2011–2018 and certain 2019 Hyundai Sonatas, 2013–2018 and certain 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe Sports, and 2014–2015, 2018, and certain 2019 Hyundai Tucsons. The cars must have contained a Theta II 2.0-liter or 2.4-liter gasoline direct injection engine within OEM specifications.

The class action settlement resolves claims that these vehicles were prone to engine stalling, engine failure, engine seizing and engine fires.

Under the terms of the class action settlement, Class Members can claim full reimbursement for repairs, a $140 goodwill payment, a lifetime warranty extension, additional reimbursement along with class action rebates of up to $2,000 to go toward a new vehicle.

Class Members have until April 12, 2021 to file a claim for this settlement.

Navy Federal Credit Union TCPA Class Action Settlement

If you do not have a Navy Federal Credit Union account but received a text message from the company, you could get cash from a $9.25 million class action settlement.

A class action lawsuit claimed that Navy Federal placed texts ads to non-credit union members in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

Under the terms of the class action settlement, Class Members are expected to receive at least $100.

File a claim by Sept. 7, 2020 get benefit from this settlement.

Acadia Healthcare Background Check Class Action Settlement

Acadia Healthcare job applicants can claim $100 from a class action settlement that resolves claims that the company violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

According to a class action settlement, Acadia healthcare did not obtain proper authorization to preform criminal background checks and included “extraneous information.”

Violations of the FCRA can be as high as $1,000 per incident. Acadia Healthcare has not admitted any liability but agreed to settle the allegations to avoid ongoing litigation costs.

To benefit from this class action settlement, you must submit a claim by Sept. 16, 2020.

DeVry University Job Opportunities Class Action Settlement

Former DeVry University students will get a partial credit reimbursement along with other cash payouts from a recent $45 million class action settlement.

college students using laptop and text booksThe DeVry University class action settlement ends allegations that students were tricked by marketing claims that 90% of DeVry graduates found a job in their field within six months.

“Unfortunately, tens of thousands of students and consumers reasonably relied on these claims and enrolled in DeVry, borrowing millions of dollars’ worth of student loans to purchase educational services and products from Defendants at inflated rates, when—had they known the truth behind Defendants’ claims—they would have paid substantially less for their enrollment or wouldn’t have enrolled at all,” the DeVry class action lawsuit states.

Class Members can expect to receive a portion of tuition costs based on the number of credits they paid for. In addition, payments of $500 and $1,000 are being offered depending on what degree the student graduated with.

File a claim for cash no later than Sept. 7, 2020.

LoanCare Late Fee Class Action Settlement

Homeowners who had their mortgage serviced by LoanCare may be eligible for cash or credit from a $1 million class action settlement.

The LoanCare class action settlement resolves allegations that the mortgage provider charged inflated late fees onto its borrowers.

Current LoanCare mortgage loan customers are expected to receive an account credit based on what was charged and what should have been charged, with interest. Former customers, will receive a check for the overpaid amount plus interest.

Class Members will automatically benefit from this settlement. Those who wish to be excluded from its terms have until Oct. 6, 2020 to do so.

Cognizant Tech Solutions Wage & Hour Class Action Settlement

Employees of Cognizant Technology Solutions could get cash from a $5.7 million wage and hour class action settlement.

The settlement ends claims that Cognizant Technology Solutions violated both state and federal laws by not paying workers for overtime. 

Cognizant workers will not need to file a claim form to benefit from this settlement. However, they must file an opt in form to be eligible for payment.

The deadline to opt in is Sept. 4, 2020.

Nasty Gal Text Message Class Action Rebates

Did you receive unwanted CVS text alerts?If you received an unwanted text message from Nasty Gal, you could get $35 in cash or a $45 voucher.

The class action settlement resolves claims that the clothing and accessories online retailer sent text ads to consumers without their consent. This marketing tactic falls under a consumer protection law referred to as the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

This federal law prohibits unwanted telemarketing calls, robocalls, text messages and even faxes.

Class Members can decide if they want $35 cash or $45 worth of class action rebates from the Nasty Gal settlement.

File a claim by Sept. 18, 2020.

1-800 Contacts Class Action Settlement

A $40 million class action settlement has been reached to reimburse consumers for making online purchases of disposable contact lenses.

Theses purchases could have been made with any of the following defendants: 1-800 Contacts, Vision Direct, Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc., Walgreens, Arlington Contact Lens Service Inc., National Vision, and Luxottica of America Inc.

The class action settlement resolves claims that the defendants worked together to create an anti-competitive agreement. As such, consumers reportedly paid more for contact lenses than they would have in a fair market.

File a claim by Dec. 4, 2020 to get cash from this class action settlement.

Aaron’s Telemarketing Calls Class Action Settlement

If you received a telemarketing call from Aaron’s Furniture and Appliances, you could get cash from a $2 million class action settlement.

The class action rebates will resolve claims that Aaron’s violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act by placing robocalls to consumers without their prior consent.

Class Members need only provide the phone number that received the unwanted call along with a claim form to get cash from this settlement.

The deadline to file a claim is Sept. 8, 2020.

GM Ignition Switch Class Action Settlement

General Motors has agreed to pay $121 million to end allegations that its ignition switch contained a defect that could be fatal if it slipped into “standby” or “auxiliary position” while being driven.

GM recall ignition switch defectThe class action lawsuit was prompted after several GM recalls were announced including: the Delta ignition switch (NHTSA Recall No. 14v047), key rotation (NHTSA Recall Nos. 14v355, 14v394, and 14v400), Camaro knee-key issues (NHTSA Recall No. 14v346) electronic power steering (NHTSA Recall No. 14v153) and/or side airbags (NHTSA Recall No. 14v118).

Plaintiffs say the ignition could slip from the “on” position while in use causing the airbags to turn off and potentially cause a crash.

GM denies liability but has agreed to the class action rebates to end the allegations.

File a claim by March 18, 2021 to benefit from this settlement.

GoDaddy TCPA Class Action Settlement

Did you receive a call or text from GoDaddy? If so, you could get cash or vouchers from a $35 million class action settlement.

A class action lawsuit claimed the web hosting company placed marketing calls and texts to consumers in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

Class Members have the option of choosing $150 merchandise class action rebate or $35 in cash from the GoDaddy class action settlement.

Consumers have until Oct. 7, 2020 to file a claim for this settlement.
