A $121.1 million class action settlement has been reached to resolve a GM ignition switch lawsuit alleging a dangerous defect.
The settlement benefits individuals who owned or leased a subject vehicle before the vehicle was announced to be part of a recall. This includes consumers whose vehicles were affected by one of five recalls regarding the Delta ignition switch (NHTSA Recall No. 14v047), key rotation (NHTSA Recall Nos. 14v355, 14v394, and 14v400), Camaro knee-key issues (NHTSA Recall No. 14v346) electronic power steering (NHTSA Recall No. 14v153) and/or side airbags (NHTSA Recall No. 14v118).
Numerous vehicles are covered by each recall notice. Consumers can check their eligibility through the settlement website’s VIN lookup.
GM vehicles have been subject to numerous recalls over the years, leading several consumers to file lawsuits against the auto company.
According to the plaintiffs involved in the recent settlement, the GM ignition switch recall and other issues have caused financial injury due to a lower trade in value, along with other issues.
The GM ignition switch defect allegedly stemmed from an issue with the switch circuitry which causes ignitions to switch from the “on” position to either the “standby” or “auxiliary position.” As a result, the vehicles allegedly turn off and the air bags become deactivated.
According to the GM ignition switch lawsuit allegations, this defect and others could result in crashes while in use — potentially made even more tragic by the lack of airbags. Allegedly, nearly 30 deaths were linked to this issue by 2014.
GM has not admitted any wrongdoing surrounding its ignition switch or the other recalls, but agreed to a $121.1 million GM ignition switch economic settlement to resolve the claims against it.
After fees and costs are deducted from the GM ignition switch economic settlement fund, the remaining money will be used for payments to Class Members. Payment amounts will depend on the number of claims filed, although individuals affected by the GM ignition switch issue and key rotation issue will receive larger payments than individuals covered by the other recalls.
In order to benefit from the GM ignition switch economic settlement, Class Members must file a valid claim form by April 20, 2021. Claim forms may require VIN numbers, vehicle information, repair documentation or other proof, depending on whether a Class Member sold the vehicle.
The deadline for exclusion and objection in the settlement is Oct. 19, 2020. The final approval hearing for the GM ignition switch economic settlement is Dec. 18, 2020.

Potential Award
Cash payments of varying sizes.
Individuals affected by the GM ignition switch issue and key rotation issue will receive larger payments than individuals covered by the other recalls, although exact payment amounts will depend on the number of claims filed.
Proof of Purchase
A unique notice ID is required to submit a claim online. Claim forms may require VIN numbers, repair documentation, or other proof, depending on whether a Class Member sold the vehicle.

Well at least you guys got something I went through all the trouble approving who I was emailing sending the proof and yet I didn’t even get a chance to see the check someone else cashed the check and I can get any help on how to find out who or where or what I don’t even know how much it was so thanks class action lawsuit but not helping at all
at least you got a check I didn’t get a check went through all the trouble of sending my information proof of who I was change of address and yet I didn’t get nothing I did not even hold a check see a check or cash a check they said it was cashed someone cashed it but it wasn’t me and I don’t even know how much it was I can’t even get any help from a class action lawsuit people to help me figure out what happened it would have been nice to get it on Christmas I’m on a fixed income disabled and yes broke so once again ho ho ho
I received my $73 check and that is not nearly enough for the pain I endured. I have had 6 GM vehicles and each one was a piece of junk. I kept saying that the next one would be better because I wanted to buy American. Ford and Chrysler suck also and have had those pieces of crap also. I will not go there again for sure. I stick to Toyota and Lexus now. I have none of the problems that I had with GM, Ford, and Chrysler pieces of crap. Tell me how you really feel.
I’m grateful for the extra $73.07, being on SSI & Christmas time. Especially since I only owned the damn car for a month. Still took a loss on it, but couldn’t get rid of it fast enough. No more Cadillacs for me. I’m happy with my Lexus.
