UPDATE: The DeVry University Job Opportunities Class Action Settlement was granted final approval on October 8, 2020. Multiple appeals have been filed. Claims will not be paid until all appeals are exhausted. We appreciate your ongoing patience. Top Class Actions will continue to provide updates as we learn more.

DeVry University has agreed to pay nearly $45 million to resolve allegations that they misrepresented job placement claims to prospective students.

The DeVry University jobs class action settlement benefits individuals who purchased or otherwise paid for part of a DeVry or Keller education program between Jan. 1, 2008 and Dec. 15, 2016.

Plaintiffs in the DeVry University class action lawsuit claimed the school fraudulently misrepresented job prospects for their graduates. As a result of these alleged misrepresentations, students were deceived into enrolling in the university and paying more for tuition than they would have if they knew the truth.

Specifically, the plaintiffs took issue with DeVry University jobs claims that 90% of graduates, or graduates of Keller Graduate School of Management were employed in their fields of study within six months of graduation. Additionally, the university allegedly made misleading claims that DeVry University graduates earned 15% more income in one year than graduates of other schools. In 2016, these claims were reportedly revealed to be false.

“Unfortunately, tens of thousands of students and consumers reasonably relied on these claims and enrolled in DeVry, borrowing millions of dollars’ worth of student loans to purchase educational services and products from Defendants at inflated rates, when—had they known the truth behind Defendants’ claims—they would have paid substantially less for their enrollment or wouldn’t have enrolled at all,” the DeVry University jobs class action lawsuit claimed.

DeVry University has not admitted any wrongdoing but has agreed to resolve the claims against them in a $44.95 million settlement.

All Class Members will be eligible to receive cash payments from the settlement based on the number of credits paid for. Payments will vary depending on the number of claims filed and the amount deducted for graduate payments and other costs.

Students who obtained an associate’s or bachelor’s degree from DeVry or a Keller’s master’s degree but did not get a job in their chosen field within six months will get an additional cash payment. Associate’s degree graduates will receive $500, bachelor’s graduates will receive $1,000, and master’s graduates will receive $500.

Other benefits under the DeVry University jobs class action settlement include career counseling for graduates who did not get a job in their chosen field within six months and deletion of negative credit events reported by DeVry University between Jan. 1, 2008 and Dec. 15, 2016.

In order to receive payments from the DeVry University jobs class action settlement, Class Members must file a valid claim form by Sept. 7, 2020. Claims require education information including dates attended, number of credits paid for, graduation information, field of study, and job placement.

Hello, yes I went to Devry from 2010 to 2013 and it sounded very promising people placing you into programs that for was bachelor is science in technical management with a concentration in security management. I went to a couple career fairs there in which they had nothing for my field got no call backs and did a career builder resume, but still no help. I tried to meet with advisors which was hard working full time as well as part time they were not understanding at first. I sit with 45,000 of loans then interest accrued over a few years which now sit at 70,000 I am on income based which does not even cover interest. I have to pay at least 250 a month just for interest fee what a joke. I had 3 advisors because they cant keep their staff. I wish I had the money to sue them myself. The kicker is they paid people full private loans the same years I was at the school how is that fair but I had federal loans, so I only got a few hundred bucks when they got sued what a joke. My only hope is Biden wiping out some loans or paying the minimum what I could afford for the next 20 years. Avoid this school very deceptive commercials when I applied saying with high job placement over 90 percent for a job in your filed lies. The school tries to be nice with emails now that they have been sued several times. hope they get shut down for fraud. I hope they keep getting sued because they screwed many people for a profit.

I can relate to everyone’s post as I have had experience in the same situation each of you have had. Where do I start. First, i received my BSCJ from a brick and mortar in the state of Texas, (2003-2008). I had also attended about 1 year (1999-2000) or so of community college, again brick and mortar. I say those things to say this, what kind of financial aid “office/department” does DeVry/Keller really have? This school sounds like a call center when you call. I have never had any counselors at my BMU(brick and mortar University) pretty much call me or email me just randomly prior to enrollment. I was a military student, was promised to receive yellow ribbon, veteran appreciation grant, etc. I received nothing but loans! I received $250 in a vet grant, but when I look at the billing summary, they simply added the “grant” back to loan monies requested from Dept of Ed. I started this school to obtain an MBA in 2012, I was dismissed in 2014 told to sit out a year and take 2 other classes at another university. I did. I attempted to re-enroll from 2015-2019. I had 3 classes to graduate. Upon my return in 2019, I was told that 7 classes, 21 credits of classes are no longer applicable to the MBA degree program and by the way, I need to take an additional 6 more classes to graduate. Crazy! By the way I am at $100,000 in student loan debt. They are very sneaky with their accounting I found after 2 years of gathering all of the emails and letters, etc I found that they state that they issued a “credit” to your account, and at the same time they state that “refunded credit” was issued to you, but in reality it was issued to your student account (as stated very small on the master promissory note), the school now has the right to claim your loaned money and not issue you an actual refund at all. I found a lot of inconsistency from page, to account, to the nsld database. Here is the kicker, i was supposed to be charged a military tuition rate of $477 per credit hour paying $1,431 per class instead I was charged $2,298 per course. I was over charged roughly $12,500 and $25,500 in “credits” issued to my student account that I never received. The big kicker is that I was promised a chance to pitch my business idea to a panel of angel investors as a part of my capstone class. Did not even happen. Terrible school . Should be closed down !
