Snyder’s whole grain class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Taren Payne filed a class action lawsuit against Campbell Soup Co. and Snyder’s-Lance Inc.
  • Why: Payne claims Campbell Soup and Snyder’s-Lance falsely advertised that its Snyder’s Hanover Braided Twists Pretzels products were made with “Whole Grain” and that a honey wheat version contained “Real Honey.”
  • Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in New York federal court.

Campbell Soup Co. and Snyder’s-Lance manufacture, advertise, and sell Snyder’s of Hanover Braided Twists Pretzels that are misleadingly represented as being made with “Whole Grain,” a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Taren Payne claims Snyder’s-Lance and its parent company Campbell Soup also misleadingly represents that the honey wheat version of the Hanover Braided Twists Pretzels are made with “Real Honey.”

Payne argues the primary ingredients for the Hanover Braided Twists Pretzels are enriched white flour — instead of whole grain wheat — and, for the honey wheat version, brown sugar, tapioca syrup and malt extract.

“As a result of their deceptive conduct, Defendants are, and continue to be, unjustly enriched at the expense of their consumers,” the class action states.

Payne wants to represent a nationwide class and New York subclass of consumers who have purchased the Snyder’s Hanover Braided Twists Pretzels primarily for personal, family or household purposes.

Campbell, Snyder’s-Lance misrepresented pretzel product to appeal to health-conscious consumers, class action says

Campbell Soup and Snyder’s-Lance misleadingly represent that the Snyder’s Hanover Braided Twists Pretzels are made with whole grains to make the product more appealing to increasingly health-conscious consumers, the Snyder’s class action alleges.

“In recent years, consumer demand for whole grain food items has skyrocketed as people have become increasingly health conscious,” the Snyder’s class action states.

Payne claims Campbell Soup and Snyder’s-Lance are guilty of New York General Business Law and state consumer protection statutes. She is demanding a jury trial and requesting an award of compensatory, statutory and/or punitive damages for herself and class members.

A consumer filed a similar class action lawsuit was filed against Snyder’s-Lance in January 2022, arguing the company falsely advertised that its Butter Snap Pretzels product was made with real butter
