Secret Antiperspirant Aerosol Spray Recall Overview:

  • Who: Antiperspirant manufacturer Secret is recalling 10 of its aerosol spray antiperspirants.
  • Why: Some of the company’s Aerosol Powder Fresh, Fresh Collection and Outlast Invisible Sprays were found to contain the carcinogen benzene.
  • Where: The recall is effective in the United States.

Antiperspirant manufacturer Secret is recalling 10 of its aerosol spray antiperspirants due to the presence of benzene detected in some products.

In a statement on its website, the company says a range of its Aerosol Powder Fresh, Fresh Collection, and Outlast Invisible Sprays are being recalled voluntarily “out of an abundance of caution.”

“Daily exposure to benzene in these aerosol spray antiperspirant products at the levels detected in our testing would not be expected to cause adverse health consequences,” the company says. Despite that, it is urging consumers to stop using the recalled aerosol products and appropriately discard them.

‘Nothing is more important than safety of customers,’ Secret Says

Benzene is classified as a human carcinogen and is a chemical compound released into the environment by both natural and industrial sources. It is a common ingredient in beauty products.

Secret says that based on exposure modeling and the cancer risk assessments published under the Environmental Protection Agency, daily exposure to benzene in the recalled products at the levels detected in its testing would not be expected to cause adverse health consequences.

“That said, out of an abundance of caution, we are voluntarily recalling these specific aerosol spray antiperspirant products. Nothing is more important to us than the safety of the consumers who use our products and the quality of the products we ship,” the company says.

The recalled products are:

  • Secret Aerosol Powder Fresh Twin Pack, UPC 037000586906

  • Secret Aerosol Powder Fresh 12/6oz, UPC 037000711087
