Woman pushing baby hopes the Britax jogging stroller isn't defective.Despite numerous complaints about the safety of the BOB Britax jogging stroller, and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) filing a lawsuit against Britax, the company has not issued a recall or taken action to protect consumers from this allegedly defective device.

What is the Britax Jogging Stroller?

Britax jogging strollers are strollers for active parents with young children. These strollers are designed so that parents can run or jog while pushing their children. Although marketed as safe and sturdy, parent complaints and injury reports indicate that the jogging strollers may be defective and prone to breaking mid-jog.

What are the Alleged Dangers of the Stroller?

Parents have reported that the quick releases on the front wheels of the Britax jogging stroller are defective and may cause the wheel to suddenly fall off. This purported defect can cause the stroller to suddenly stop, and then tip forward or over. If this occurs during a jog, both the adult and the child may be seriously injured by the unexpected stop. Nearly 100 children and parents have reported injuries from the Britax jogging stroller’s quick release wheel failure. Reported injuries include:

  • Abrasions
  • Bruises
  • Contusions
  • Lacerations
  • Concussions
  • Dental Injuries
  • Broken Bones
  • Torn Ligaments

Has the Britax Jogging Stroller Been Recalled?

In an effort to force Britax to recall the jogging stroller, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) filed a lawsuit against the company in February 2018. Although a settlement was reached in November 2018, and Britax agreed to offer owners of some strollers a discount on future purchases, the company has still not voluntarily recalled the strollers. Additionally, Britax claims that its product is not defective, placing blame on consumers. The company released a YouTube video showing how to operate the stroller and how to deploy the stroller’s quick release system, Britax continues to deny any fault. The video is part of an informational campaign the company agreed to launch following the CPSC lawsuit.

Which Strollers May Be Affected?

According to CBS News, there are some 17 models affected — totaling approximately 500,000 Britax strollers –including the Ironman, Ironman Duallie, Sport Utility Stroller, Stroller Strides, Stroller Strides Duallie, SUS Duallie and 11 models of the Britax Revolution manufactured between December 2011 and September 2015, according to CBS News. These strollers are sold at many retail stores, including Amazon and REI, and cost between $200 and $400.

If you or your child has suffered injuries due to a defective Britax jogging stroller, you may be eligible to hire an experienced attorney and file a class action lawsuit. Victims who pursue compensation through a class action lawsuit may be able to recoup damages for injuries, pain and suffering, loss of income, or compensation for the defective product.
