Ford Fusion Transmission Class Action Lawsuit:

  • Who: Drivers have lodged a class action lawsuit against Ford Motor Company.
  • What: The drivers say a Ford Fusion transmission problem can cause sudden shaking, violent jerking, and difficulty stopping the vehicles.
  • Where: The plaintiffs seek to represent Ford Fusion owners nationwide.

A Ford Fusion transmission problem can allegedly cause sudden shaking, violent jerking, and difficulty stopping according to a new nationwide class action lawsuit.

The 841-page lawsuit was filed recently against Ford Motor Company in a Michigan federal court, CarComplaints reports.

In it, plaintiffs allege that Ford Fusion transmission problems cause unexpected shaking, violent jerking, bucking and kicking on acceleration, delayed acceleration, gears slipping, difficulty stopping the vehicle, and lack or loss of motive power.

The lawsuit alleges most of the problems come from Fusion 6F35 transmissions found in all automatic, non-hybrid Fusions from 2013 and later. The issue also allegedly affects many 2010-2012 Ford Fusions.

Ford Fusion Transmission Problems Pose a Dangerous Vehicle Safety Issue

The plaintiffs say motorist safety has been endangered due to the issues, and a Ford Fusion recall should have been issued a long time ago.

According to the lawsuit, Ford knew in 2009 the Fusion transmission problems existed but didn’t tell drivers about the alleged defects.

The affected drivers say they brought their cars to dealerships to fix the transmission problems, but there were no adequate solutions available.

Fiesta Owners May Experience Similar Ford Fusion Transmission Problems

Meanwhile, Ford drivers who had a 2011-2016 Ford Fiesta or a 2012-2016 Ford Focus may also lodge a class action lawsuit; they have experienced serious problems with their vehicles after getting the $1095 “Powershift” transmission or Dual Clutch upgrade, according to the law firm representing plaintiffs in the Fusion case.

In the Fiesta and Focus case, the transmission system that replaces a traditional automatic transmission was marketed to consumers as providing more efficient and fast shifting of gears, the firm says.

However, the Ford Focus and Fiesta vehicles equipped with the “Powershift” transmission or Dual Clutch are allegedly prone to problems that include transmission shuddering, slipping, jerking, loss of motive power, difficulty stopping, and other issues.

Ford was established in 1901 and has since expanded to become an internationally known household name that sells both commercial vehicles under the Ford brand, and the majority of luxury vehicles under the Lincoln brand.

Over the years the automaker has faced backlash from consumers, with many lawsuits and class action lawsuits resulting from allegations regarding the manufacturer’s operations. These allegations have ranged from claims of malfunctioning brake systems to manual transmission defects, frozen door locks, and more.

  1. Diana says:

Purchased my 2016 ford fusion November 2021 With 105000 miles.
At 6 months and 5,000 I did my oil change. It broke down with transmission issues soon after. I replaced it. Two months later, it went out again. Again I replaced it. Only lasted two weeks before it broke down again! This time I had it rebuilt and it cost me 4 grand. ( they also replaced the starter ) three days later I’m broken down again…. I’m at the end of my rope with this car and I still owe 5,000 on it( with a 26%apr) I hate that I made the decision to buy this car. Not even two years and it’s had 3 transmission replacements. I believe when I bought it it had also already been previously changed at least once. This is a horrible car. Never buying Ford again after this experience.

  2. Kassie Burright says:

Was in an accident due to failure of the brakes. Head went through the windshield I have pictures of the car no airbags were deployed on my Ford fusion

  3. Shane wiley says:

I have a 2019 that has the same exact problems that are mentioned above article it has 113000 miles on it but the majority of them are highway miles but the problems started at a lil over a 105000 how come there isn’t a recall for my transmission when it’s the same as all the other affected vehicles mentioned

  4. Mitch saalfrank says:

2013 for fusion took it to dealer at 100000 miles exactly. Said nothing they could do it’s done. Was essentially then forced to take 3 grand from them to trade in for 2017 Ford fusion.

  5. Chris Faber says:

Our 2014 Ford Fusion transmission went out. Ford replaced it for over $4000 dollars and less than a year and a half later it’s going out again.

  6. Ei says:

My 2017 ford fusion has had the engine replaced and the transmission replaced. Just the other day I was driving and my car started to sputter and then just stopped moving forward thankfully I was in the right lane in slow traffic because I would have caused a pile up on I-95. The car just drives backwards not forward and I was stuck for 3 hours on the side of the road with my daughter. The shop is saying it could be my transmission again I have not heard anything yet. That would be the third transmission in 6 years. Along with that nightmare my windows do not stay up they go up and directly back down I have to slowly put my window up to make it stay and sometimes it won’t shut completely.

  7. Brock says:

My 2011 Ford Fusion has been dropping out of gear at completely random times while driving. This has happened on busy roads, intersections, and on highways. The only way to get it back into gear is by putting it in park, turning it off and back on again, and even then it doesn’t always work. Not to mention the fact that this happens on roads where I can’t easily pull over. This is completely ridiculous and absolutely dangerous. Nearly got in an accident this morning because of it.

  8. Natalie says:

The jerking and getting out of 2nd gear is so annoying and embarrassing!!!

    1. Danielle L Morrison says:

2019 fusion having g same problems as listed in the article. We took it in and they said we had to get a motor. Been having to change spark plugs consistently on it. Ry s good for awhile but then starts shaking again.

  9. Haley George says:

Yes my 2013 Ford Fusion Titanium is shifting bad also.. From 1st gear to 2nd gear it jerks bad. My friend said it was A motor mount and transmission issues.. This car hasn’t been nothing but codes on top of codes and now my transmission is going out.. RIDICULOJS is what it is Ford should be hekpld accountable for the problems period this is ridiculous..

    1. Troy L THOMPSON says:

Agreed same here it has to be something done about this

  10. Reinaldo Cruz ( Puerto Rico ) says:
