ford truckA class action lawsuit claims that Ford F-150 vehicles possess defects in their paint and/or paint primer and in the aluminum body panels that can cause the vehicles to corrode prematurely.

The Ford F-150 paint corrosion class action lawsuit was filed by Tina Nelson who says she owns a 2014 Ford F-150 Supercrew that she purchased in 2016 for around $24,000.

Allegedly, when the vehicle had less than 40,000 miles on it, its paint began to peel severely and became corroded in the body panels including the roof, hood, and side panels.

The Ford F-150 class action lawsuit says that shortly after she discovered the damages, Nelson brought her F-150 to an authorized Ford dealership for repairs. Allegedly, the dealership determined that the problem was caused by a defect in the primer, but did not provide assistance.

The Ford representative at the dealership reportedly asked the technician if they felt that the problem was due to a defect in the paint. The technician allegedly said that it was probably a defect in the primer, which prevented the paint from adhering to it.

The Ford F-150 corrosion class action lawsuit claims that the Ford dealership did not attempt to remedy the problem, even though the vehicle was still under its 5-year Extended Corrosion Warranty. Allegedly, the Ford representatives did not provide any warranty help about the damages caused by the defects.

According to Nelson, the paint bubbling, peeling, corrosion, and damages decreased the vehicle’s resale value. Nelson goes on to say that “as more underlying structural components are uncovered” because of the corrosion and peeling, the problem worsens because more of the vehicle is exposed to the environment.

The Ford F-150 class action lawsuit states that the deficit causes financial damage to customers like Nelson not only because of the damage to the resale value of the vehicle, but because the cost of fixing the problem is significant.

Nelson says that “the money needed to even attempt to remedy the problem, is greater than simply the cost of a new paint job, because the underlying Corrosion Defect in the aluminum hood would cause any new paint to bubble and flake as well.”

The Ford corrosion class action lawsuit says that Ford knew or should have known about the defect but did not try to provide a remedy, citing numerous consumer complaints about the issue.

Nelson says that had she known that her vehicle possessed the defect, she would not have purchased it, or would have paid significantly less for it. She seeks damages on behalf of herself and all other similarly affected customers.

Purchased my 2015 Ford F150XLT Supercab new in 2016. I also have paint bubbling and flaking on that hood, above the windshield, roof and tailgate. I called Ford to ask if they had an email so I could send pictures and of course they do not. I told the phone representative about the paint bubbling problem and she pretty much told me to pound sand. As a loyal Ford customer this is just sad!

  2. Robin Ryan says:

Spent a lot of money on this truck and this is concerning, especially living in FL. I hope that us owners will be compensated for this defect as it drops the value of our vehicles. Also experiencing the transmission shifting hard – that’s another lawsuit. Hopefully I can get that fixed too.

  3. Donald Shaw says:

I own a 2014 Crew Cab Ford Limited. I have experienced this corrosion paint bubbling and peeling problem on the rear hatch door and side of rear ends. It occurred during the 50 000 miles. Therefore, no more warranty. I have also Rust Proof my pick-up by professionals. This did not help new rust from popping up!

  5. Kevin Carr says:

My 2010 f150 super crew pickup is developing bubbling corrosion around the lead edge of the hood. Is there any recourse for it?

  6. TBR says:

I have a 2012 F150 Supercrew 4×4 bought used in 2013 with 8000 miles. In 2014 I noticed paint bubbling around the rocker panels under the rear doors. Now the rocker panels have basically rusted away and its starting to rust around the rear tire wells. The bed has a sprayed in liner and this weekend I climbed into the bed to retrieve a tool and the bed floor almost caved in where I was stepping. This rust situation is ff..ing insane. The frame, brake lines and other components are in great shape as i would also wash the underside a few times a year and spray everything down with WD-40. It didn’t do shit to help with the body though. Mechanically, the truck has been without any issue, but the damn rust! I’m not sure I could even sell now it with the amount of body rust damage.

I just bought privately a 2012 f150 super cab fx4 platinum. I didn’t notice the rockers under the cab by power running boards were starting to rust. Also some minor body repair surface rust. Had a body shop fix it $6000 plus. They said the rockers are rusting from the inside out because the drain from the sun roof is directed into them. The drain holes in rockers plug sometimes and water remains in them and rusts. To replace rockers and any thing else they find could cost up to $20000. Twenty thousand using a similar truck they did as an example. . I paid $24000. 123000 km on it

    1. Ned Christiansen says:

I have a 2012 f150 platinum as well. In 2017 I noticed rust in the rear corner driver side of the cab. Now both rockers are rusted from the back of the cab almost to the front of the rear doors. I was going to get them replaced but I’m not thinking it would be worth the cost. I think I’m switching to done after being a Ford guy my whole adult life.

  8. Yates Cathrall says:

I have a 2014 F150 platinum I purchased and now im driving a Rusted up truck this problem needs to be fixed I’ve had 3 ford trucks and this is the only one with this problem ford should at least have to pay out the cost of fixing this problem to customers

  9. John Botello says:

My 2014 f-150 has paint pitting on the hood and on top. It is no real bad yet but by the comments from other ford owners looks like it is only a mater of time.

  10. Keith Lindsey says:

I have a 2016 Expedition XLT purchased new in July of 2016 it has 65,000 miles on it the other day i noticed 2 paint bubbles above the chrome trim piece on the tailgate called the dealer he said it is not covered under there finish warranty unless it is rusted all the way through the panel he said the best thing is to put on a new tailgate at my cost this vehicle has had 2 many other issues for a vehicle with this many miles I do have an extended warranty but I am sure it doesn’t cover paint issues.
