ford truckA class action lawsuit claims that Ford F-150 vehicles possess defects in their paint and/or paint primer and in the aluminum body panels that can cause the vehicles to corrode prematurely.

The Ford F-150 paint corrosion class action lawsuit was filed by Tina Nelson who says she owns a 2014 Ford F-150 Supercrew that she purchased in 2016 for around $24,000.

Allegedly, when the vehicle had less than 40,000 miles on it, its paint began to peel severely and became corroded in the body panels including the roof, hood, and side panels.

The Ford F-150 class action lawsuit says that shortly after she discovered the damages, Nelson brought her F-150 to an authorized Ford dealership for repairs. Allegedly, the dealership determined that the problem was caused by a defect in the primer, but did not provide assistance.

The Ford representative at the dealership reportedly asked the technician if they felt that the problem was due to a defect in the paint. The technician allegedly said that it was probably a defect in the primer, which prevented the paint from adhering to it.

The Ford F-150 corrosion class action lawsuit claims that the Ford dealership did not attempt to remedy the problem, even though the vehicle was still under its 5-year Extended Corrosion Warranty. Allegedly, the Ford representatives did not provide any warranty help about the damages caused by the defects.

According to Nelson, the paint bubbling, peeling, corrosion, and damages decreased the vehicle’s resale value. Nelson goes on to say that “as more underlying structural components are uncovered” because of the corrosion and peeling, the problem worsens because more of the vehicle is exposed to the environment.

The Ford F-150 class action lawsuit states that the deficit causes financial damage to customers like Nelson not only because of the damage to the resale value of the vehicle, but because the cost of fixing the problem is significant.

Nelson says that “the money needed to even attempt to remedy the problem, is greater than simply the cost of a new paint job, because the underlying Corrosion Defect in the aluminum hood would cause any new paint to bubble and flake as well.”

The Ford corrosion class action lawsuit says that Ford knew or should have known about the defect but did not try to provide a remedy, citing numerous consumer complaints about the issue.

Nelson says that had she known that her vehicle possessed the defect, she would not have purchased it, or would have paid significantly less for it. She seeks damages on behalf of herself and all other similarly affected customers.

Bought a 2013 in 5/21 beautiful truck only 33k on it. I thought I went over the truck pretty good a couple of months later I noticed a little bubble in the paint around one of the fender rear wells. Went back to the dealer lo and behold no help. One year later paint bubbling up multiple spots around both rear fender wells. Previous owner must’ve did what I should’ve done and that was go to the Internet and research this particular truck I would’ve known about all these rust issues now I guess I’m just screwed.

We had/have the same problem w our 2013 Ford F-150. At 4 years old it started rusting n paint bubbling up. We’ve had a body shop fix it 3 or 4 times and it just starts rusting elsewhere. We paid 28k for the truck in 2015. Ford blew us off!

I have a 2014 f150 super crew that is starting to rust bad at the cab and box corners as well as the rear wheel wells. Some is starting in the rockers too. My truck is white and I have seen at least 12 just like mine in the past 2 days since I started looking. Just got a company car and thinking about selling my truck but afraid to see how much this rust is going to affect the price

I own a 2010 Ford Expedition Limited. I have experienced this corrosion paint bubbling and peeling problem on the rear hatch door. It occurred during the initial 3Yr/36000 bumper to bumper warranty, not to mention the 5year corrosion warranty. i brought my vehicle into the dealer to get the problem rectified, and they notified me that it was in fact a corrosion problem, and it was due to “something obviously faulty”. But, since the corrosion did not “perforate the body panel” that the Ford warranty would not cover it at all. They did provide me an estimate to fix it by removing the entire panel, stripping off all the hardware and glass, sandblasting to remove all the existing paint and corrosion, then re-priming and repainting to match the factory paint. Then reinstalling all hardware and glass and re-installing and aligning the door panel. $3400, if my memory serves me correctly. This was in 2013. The corrosion and paint have gotten progressively worse over the last 9 years.
Now I am about to purchase a new truck, and I realize the trade in value of my Expedition is going to be SEVERELY lower because of this issue that FORD would not fix. Not to mention that i purchased Ford’s highest priced vehicle in 2010 and have been driving an SUV that has looked terrible for 10-11 years of the 13 years that i have owned it. I bought that vehicle as a status symbol as well as for its utility. And when people see me in it, they have to look at it and think, “that guy is driving a shitbox” Thats not what i spent $70,000 for way back in 2010

My 2016 Ford F-150 super crew XLT has paint peeling and bubbling on the roof in the gutters by the doors on both sides of the vehicle. The passenger side has almost all the paint peeled off. The dealer at Bell Ford in Phoenix, Az stated there was a problem with the paint when I first pointed out the little bubbles in 2017 during an oil change. The issue finally resulted in peeling in January this year (2022). The Lincoln dealer I had warranty work performed at last week stated there was nothing that could be done since the vehicle was outside the 3 year paint warranty as it isn’t covered under my Premium extended warranty.

I own a 2011 F-150 that has rusted out on the cab corners. After contacting Ford about the problem they told they wouldn’t warranty it. My truck had 60,000 miles on it. I have always bought Ford trucks but when I told them that I probably wouldn’t be buying another Ford vehicle they didn’t seem to care.

    1. Stephan says:

My 2011 is rusted so bad underneath, the gas tank nearly fell out, control arms need replaced wheel wells rocker panels are completely shot. Unbelievable.

  6. A. MacNeil says:

I have a 2012 F-150, paint started peeling around the windshield and back window several years ago. Dealership tried to get us help from Ford, but they said it was out of warranty. Paint continues to peel away and now the whole underside of the truck is rusting out and will likely cost more than it’s worth to repair. Very disappointing.

  7. Mark Jacques says:

I have a 2017 F-150 3.5 and first noticed a peeling spot on the roof of the truck a year after purchase. Fast forward to today and I have 2 big spots on back fender and now a huge one on the hood of the truck. It’s like a sunburn where it just keeps peeling off. Not happy considering what I paid for truck.

  8. james rydleski says:

My 2014 f-150 is starting to rust out on the cab corners and the rockers. I was told this is from the sunroof drain issue. The water is draining from the sunroof and empties out into the cab corners. This is a big problems with all F-150 and Ford needs to fix the problem. It will cost me over $4000 for a body shop to repair this.

  9. Michael Norwood says:

I too have a 2013 F150 super crew that I purchased used over year ago and cab corners starting to show rust under the paint.
I’m really upset that so many or all of these trucks that have been purchased are having these issues. I’ve purchased fords trucks and vans for years and can’t believe they are not helping with these issues.
I’ve enjoyed my truck since purchased and now feeling sick that I have to have both cab corners repaired .

  10. Gary Hooton says:

2013 f150 Xlt super cab. Rust holes in cab corners and also large rust bubbles on both left and right bed front side panels
