FCA Ram defect class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: James Neu filed a class action lawsuit against FCA US LLC and Stellantis N.V.
  • Why: Neu claims FCA and Stellantis manufactured and sold model year 2017-2018 Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 pickup trucks containing allegedly defective hydraulic control units and antilock braking systems.
  • Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in California federal court.

FCA US and Stellantis manufactured and sold model year 2017-2018 Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 pickup trucks containing “dangerous and defective” hydraulic control units and antilock braking systems, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff James Neu claims the alleged defects cause the Ram vehicles’ hydraulic control units and antilock braking systems to become inoperable and makes them more difficult for drivers to control.

“Driving the Vehicles become especially dangerous in already dangerous road conditions, such as when the road is wet or snowy, as braking becomes much more difficult,” the FCA class action states.

Neu argues FCA and Stellantis either knew or should have known about the alleged defects prior to selling the Ram vehicles to consumers, as evidenced by a Technical Service Bulletin allegedly regarding the defects.

“Defendants perform rigorous pre-sale testing and received numerous consumer complaints relating to the Defect,” the FCA class action states.

FCA, Stellantis violated federal and state laws, class action says

Neu wants to represent a nationwide class and California subclass of consumers who own, owned, lease or leased a model year 2017-2018 Ram 2500 and/or Ram 3500 pickup truck that was purchased in the U.S. or its territories.

FCA and Stellantis are accused of unjust enrichment, fraud and breach of implied warranty of merchantability, and of violating California’s False Advertising Law, Consumers Legal Remedies Act, and the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act, among other things.

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory and injunctive relief along with an award of compensatory and other damages for himself and all class members.

A separate class action lawsuit was filed against FCA in June by a consumer arguing the automaker concealed an alleged defect that allowed water to enter into the back cabin of its Ram 1500 pickup trucks.

  1. Kristi Eifert says:

I own the 2017 Ram 3500 and the Electronic Braking System warning light is now continually dinging. This issue occurred 6 months ago and I parked my truck awaiting the part to be repaired before Mopar would release it to the service departments. Dealer says it an issue with all Rams 2011 – 2020, but they don’t want to take responsibility for the issue.
My truck has just under 30,000 miles. My factory warranty should still be in effect, under 5 years & 50,000 miles. It’s going to be in the shop to have the defective HCU & ABS controller fixed. Not sure how long I’ll be without my truck.
I used my truck to tow my horses to Search & Rescue callouts. I have NOT been able to attend and do my job since it’s been parked.
Someone can get killed if brakes of a truck fails. First & foremost I want Dodge Ram to acknowledge that there is an issue and pay for this to be repaired on their $$.

    2018 Ram 2500 6.7.
37k miles, ABS and traction control light on. Parts on back order and can’t order for at least a year now.

I have no trailer brakes and I hull heavy loads at times. Truck now has 50k miles on it.

  3. Travis Brien says:

I bought my 2018 ram 2500 new in 2019. I had the hcu replaced around 34kmiles which was under warranty. But now at 59k miles it is acting up again and my truck is now in the show as I am typing this to replace the hcu once again which will cost me $1200+.

    1. Schlenia Carter says:

Our 2018 RAM 2500 is having the same issue. Replaced @ 6600 miles under warranty and now @ 25,000 miles needs replacing again with a cost of $1800-$2000 even though the part was determined defective. I have filed a report with the NTSA and will also file suit if needed for resolution. Been a loyal ram customer for as long as we can remember so this is extremely disappointing!

  4. Stephen Brown says:

I have a 2018 dodge ram, 2500 and the ABS light on and the traction light is on and it keeps beeping the brake pedal seems like it’s bad like I gotta pump it once before stops and sometimes when I step on the break it doesn’t seem like it’s even working. It’s so hard, it’s still not coming up with the code

  5. Thomas Robinson says:

I own a 2018 Dodge Ram 2500 6.7 been having issues with my hydraulic control module for 30k miles now can’t locate the part anywhere on back order truck currently has 45k miles

  6. Tommy Thibodeau says:

I own a 2018 Ram 2500 with 6.4 v8 Tradesmen and 16k miles. I purchased new and now my ABS and Traction Control light keeps flashing causing cruise to disengage and constant annoying bing sound. I have schedule service at Chrysler dealership for June 7.

  7. Jason Sullivan says:

I have a 2018 ram 2500 it’s in the shop having the HCU fixed at this time. My factor warranty just ran out and going to cost over 1500.00 to replace the defective HCU. Dealer says it an issue with all 2018 ram 2500 but nothing has been done about it. What really bad is I haul heavy trailers all the time and have my son with me. Why to they not favor that someone can get kid or really hurt if brakes of a truck fails. Not sure what todo I will pay to have fixed but it should be given back to me since truck only has 39000 miles

  8. Woody Bice says:

I have a 2018 ram 2500 and the service electronic braking system light will flash followed by a service traction control light. When they go off it will ding and turn off the cruise control. The lights may stay on or repeatedly ding several times in a row and go off.

    1. Jason Sullivan says:

Should have been killed not kid, really mad about this for you buy a truck to last and this starts to happen.

  9. Joe Herb says:

I own a Ram 2500 and experiencing the same thing. Have a full warranty but they say the parts are not available. Any help would be appreciated
