Cadillac SRX at dealershipA class action lawsuit says that the headlights on 2010-2015 Cadillac SRX vehicles possess a defect that causes them to fail unexpectedly and prematurely.

Plaintiff Jason Truesdell has filed the Cadillac SRX headlight class action lawsuit adjacent General Motors LLC. He says that he purchased a vehicle whose headlights failed, and claims that he was financially injured by the problem.

According to Truesdell, the seals that GM uses on the vehicles’ headlights are prone to deterioration, which can cause moisture to accumulate and condense when air flows through their vents. Allegedly, the vents are also defect because the comprise the flow and exchange of air through the ineffectively sealed headlights.

Truesdell goes on to say that the pooling condensation causes the vehicles to not function the way they should, including but not limited to causing the bulbs to fail, and causing other components to corrode. Allegedly, electrical shorts can also occur because of the defect.

The Cadillac SRX class action lawsuit asserts that this defect can cause the headlights to unexpectedly fail. Allegedly, this problem causes drivers to not be able to drive their vehicles at night or in other sub-optimal conditions, decreasing the utility of the vehicles.

Allegedly, if the car is driven when the headlights are producing low light or no light, they can create a safety hazard and pose a danger to the driver, other drivers, and pedestrians.

Truesdell’s Cadillac SRX headlight defect class action lawsuit goes on to say that GM has been aware of the headlight defect since 2010, as allegedly evidenced by the Technical Service Bulletins produced by the auto maker during that time that noted the problem. Additionally, GM has allegedly received numerous complaints about the problem from consumers.

Truesdell argues that hundreds of owners and lessees of the allegedly affected vehicles have complained about the defect and the safety concerns to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and have written about the problem on online forums monitored by GM.

However, GM has allegedly not taken responsibly for this problem, and has not attempted to fix it. Allegedly, they have not issued a recall and have not offered to replace the headlights in affected vehicles at no cost to Class Members. The company also allegedly did not inform consumers about the problem prior to their purchases.

Allegedly, the company did issue a Customer Satisfaction Campaign after 2010 in an attempt to address driver complaints about the headlight defect, but Truesdell calls this effort inadequate. Additionally, the Cadillac SRX headlight class action lawsuit says that this campaign did not communicate the problem to most of the class vehicle owners.

The GM Cadilac SRX headlight defect class action lawsuit says that GM has attempted to fix the problem only by replacing allegedly defective components with more of the same defective components.

Jason Truesdell is represented by Richard S. Cornfeld and Daniel S. Levy of the Law Office of Richard S. Cornfeld.

The Cadillac SRX Headlight Defect Class Action Lawsuit is Truesdell v. General Motors LLC, Case No. 4:19-cv-02268, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri.
