Whirlpool has agreed to pay $21 million to resolve claims that some of their refrigerators have defective drain tubes that may cause water to leak into the freezer.

The leaky refrigerator settlement will benefits consumers who purchased certain Whirlpool-manufactured refrigerators, acquired the refrigerators as part of a home purchase or remodel, or who received the refrigerators as a gift. A full list of eligible models is available on the settlement website.

The refrigerators covered in this settlement were sold under the Whirlpool, Amana, Jenn-Air and KitchenAid brands.

Plaintiff Julie Corzine filed her refrigerator class action lawsuit against Whirlpool and Maytag in November 2015. She claimed that some of their refrigerator models have a defect that leads to a buildup of ice that eventually causes water leakage from the bottom of the appliances.

Whirlpool attempted to dodge the suit but was forced to face the claims by a federal judge in October 2016. While the judge dismissed some negligence claims, she found that the plaintiffs’ breach of warranty allegations were still able to proceed.

Whirlpool agreed to settle the class action against them in July. Under settlement terms, the company will pay $21 million and will continue its replacement parts program through the end of 2021.

Please add me to the Whirlpool lawsuit. We are the owners of one of the refigerators that leaks water into the freezer.

  2. Doris Kelly says:

I purchased a Whirlpool side by side with ice maker on August 6, 2021 and in November of 2022 I returned home to a floor full of water then saw it was coming from the refrigerator. I then saw that the ice had been building up and was dripping inside on my food, much of which had to be thrown out. A friend suggested I check my warranty which was 1 year that had just recently expired. Called Whirlpool and was told that it was no longer under warranty. My handy man friend came over to help me clean up the mess and a lot of my food had to be thrown away. He used a hair dryer to melt the ice which took all day and a lot of clean up. Within 1 week, it had build up again and continues to leak water on my new floors. I want to be added to this class action because it has continually build up with the ice and I cannot afford to buy another refrigerator or costly repairs. I need immediate help with this problem and I see that this is a problem many along with myself is experiencing which indicates that it has a faulty design on the ice maker. Everyone here cannot be lying about the same problem!!

    Please add me

  4. Annabelle Heiser says:

The bottom of my freezer kept filing up with ice then it would melt and I’d find water all over my kitchen floor. The ice maker also malfuntioned and had to be replaced. In all service calls and parts cost me over $300.00. I have tried to filled a claim on the lawsuit but I can’t get the claim form to load.

  5. Crystal Sweatt says:

I have a whirlpool sidekick fridge and freezer pair and this is the 4th time having to repair the fridge. The coils are faulty and after a certain amount of time freezes and punctures a hole in the coils. We’ve lost so much food, I called whirlpool they said there’s nothing they can do except give me a discount on another fridge. We’ve spent over $600 on this fridge since 2020 and it’s only 5 years old. Now the coils are on back order and we had to buy a mini fridge to get by. It’s 63 degrees in our whirlpool fridge. Please add me to your list, this is poor service.

  6. S. Walker says:

I purchased Whirlpool WRF990SLAM02 model in 2014. Day before Thanksgiving it stopped cooling & freezing. I wasn’t able to get a repair company due to holiday. No fridge for 4 days! Issue may be fixable but Whirlpool site and customer service are lacking. I guess I’m lucky it lasted this long but … I did have to replace my Whirlpool washer almost 3 years after purchasing. Washer stopped in wash cycle and door wouldn’t unlock. By the time a tech told me how to unlock it the clothes were soggy, mildewed and gross! Motherboard computer or whatever was fried so Whirlpool refunded me the purchase price but the replacement was about $200 more since I have a stacked set and the compatible washer to the dryer was new model.
I’d like a part in this suit IF my refrigerator model is defective. I had a GE refrigerator from 1995 that is still operating; gave it to my sister when I remodeled and upgraded to Whirlpool. Mistake? Maybe.

  7. Whirlpooled says:

A YEAR after filing a future event claim and the local provider ordering the part, it is still on back order.
Anyone know what happens if a company does not comply with the settlement they agreed to?

  8. Jessica Chapman says:

Whirlpool Refrigerator leaking from bottom resulting in significant damage to hardwood flooring. Now I have to replace my Hardwood floor

  9. Valerie Barton says:

Add me please. Whirlpool has lost in quality. I am shocked!

  10. Milagros Rothwell says:

    Add me please.
