A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit alleging WEN hair products caused some users to suffer hair loss, hair damage or scalp irritation.

If you purchased and/or used WEN hair care products, you may be entitled to compensation from the class action settlement.

Hundreds of plaintiffs have filed class action lawsuits against the manufacturers of WEN after they allegedly suffered hair loss and/or scalp injuries after using the hair care products.

One of the first WEN class action lawsuits was filed by plaintiff Amy Friedman of Florida. She says that she purchased a WEN Cleansing Conditioner product and began losing significant amounts of hair within two weeks of using the product.

Friedman says she relied on claims suggesting that “WEN is gentle enough to use every day” and that “WEN isn’t like an ordinary shampoo so you want to use more of it, not less.”

According to the WEN class action lawsuit, the defendants knew that the products suffered from a serious design defect but failed to warn consumers that WEN hair care products could cause significant hair loss.

In July 2016, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration launched an investigation into the WEN hair care products after it received a number of reports from consumers about the products.

In December 2015, the parties began mediation in order to resolve the WEN class action lawsuits.

Defendants Guthy-Renker LLC and WEN by Chaz Dean Inc. deny the allegations but have agreed to a class action settlement in order to avoid the cost and risk of trial. They have agreed to pay more than $26 million to settle the WEN hair care class action lawsuit.

The WEN class action settlement was preliminarily approved on Oct. 28, 2016.

If you would like to opt out of or object to the WEN class action settlement, you must do so no later than Feb. 10, 2017.

  1. NADINE KNOX says:

I used this product for quote some time and I loved it (smelled great and my hair felt slick and looked shiny) until I noticed that my hair became thinner and thinner, began falling out and even left a bald spot on my head. It was so bad that I went to my doctor to find out if I had a medical issue. She took tons of labs and everything came back normal. Also, my hairdresser even made a comment to me about it and told me to stop using whatever products I was using. I I had contacted the company at that time and the girl I spoke to notated my complaint and only agreed to credit any unopened products. I was NEVER advised that this lawsuit even existed. I think that is very wrong. I have emails of my orders and even searched my emails through 2015, which is when I stopped using the product. I was not notified ever! To date I still have a bald spot because of Wen products. Why was I not notified of this lawsuit?

  2. Sarah Pribe says:

I have not received my payment check neither when are we going to have a follow up discussed about this, now my hair has lost three quarters worth! Help!

  3. Emily Wagoner says:

  5. DeAnne Ramsey says:

I never received anything about a lawsuit or any steps I would have to take to make a claim. Will there be another action lawsuit against Wen? Not only did lose hair but I also had bad sores on my scalp and I believe that they left scars on my scalp.

  6. JoAnne d Gilliland Power says:

I signed up for the lawsuit but you told me that you couldnt find me in the USA. I have found a bill from the USA…you said if ever find one to reach out.

  7. Debra Cona overaker says:

I had subscription to wen services. Used it religiously for years until about a year ago. Noticed my hair thinking at temples and all over. My hair is normally thick coarse and curly. Now my hair is thin and broken in the back and sides at about the ear level. Can I file a claim?

    1. Mary Bialobryski says:

      1. Jeannie holman says:

I contacted wen about the shampoo I have been using it for 2 years I had long beautiful hair now my hair has fallen out and thin i am so sick i contacted when in regard s and no response or call back from them what can i do

  8. Betty Lewis says:

Have you taken the product off the market? I used wen after my sister gave me a large supply, and began noticing hir thinning at the hair line. You should have a recall!

  9. Crystal Sanjurjo says:

I am now just hearing about this lawsuit and did not receive notification whatsoever… I had a subscription and purchased Wen products through their website for about a year and a half and stopped because i noticed some thinning on my hairline area. I’ve even had an issue with their customer representative because I had to cancel my membership at least 4 times (3 via phone) before they stopped charging my card.

    1. Debra says:

So did I. My hair is a mess. It’s thinned at hairline and broken

  10. Tirza Painter says:

I only received one email about the settlement. In previous years I had hear about the lawsuit, noticed significant thinning and head been told my hair was thin, I’ve NEVER been told I have thin hair, So I had contacted WEN about the investigation and I was assured I had nothing to worry about and their products are completely safe, so I placed my order. And continued to purchase the products. Also, at different times, other people were paying for the WEN product for myself and they were NEVER notified about the lawsuit…. So now, I feel unjustified and humiliated for what I’ve gone through.
