A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit alleging WEN hair products caused some users to suffer hair loss, hair damage or scalp irritation.

If you purchased and/or used WEN hair care products, you may be entitled to compensation from the class action settlement.

Hundreds of plaintiffs have filed class action lawsuits against the manufacturers of WEN after they allegedly suffered hair loss and/or scalp injuries after using the hair care products.

One of the first WEN class action lawsuits was filed by plaintiff Amy Friedman of Florida. She says that she purchased a WEN Cleansing Conditioner product and began losing significant amounts of hair within two weeks of using the product.

Friedman says she relied on claims suggesting that “WEN is gentle enough to use every day” and that “WEN isn’t like an ordinary shampoo so you want to use more of it, not less.”

According to the WEN class action lawsuit, the defendants knew that the products suffered from a serious design defect but failed to warn consumers that WEN hair care products could cause significant hair loss.

In July 2016, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration launched an investigation into the WEN hair care products after it received a number of reports from consumers about the products.

In December 2015, the parties began mediation in order to resolve the WEN class action lawsuits.

Defendants Guthy-Renker LLC and WEN by Chaz Dean Inc. deny the allegations but have agreed to a class action settlement in order to avoid the cost and risk of trial. They have agreed to pay more than $26 million to settle the WEN hair care class action lawsuit.

The WEN class action settlement was preliminarily approved on Oct. 28, 2016.

If you would like to opt out of or object to the WEN class action settlement, you must do so no later than Feb. 10, 2017.

I never received my claim and I filed the form what should I do?

  3. Trina says:

I received my claim, and I’m happy with the amount,

  4. Betty says:

Received my Wen Check today April 28 2018 for $650 thanks class action

  5. tiffany says:

I wasnt apart of this class action. I was apart of Suave class action, whos owned by unilever. I sent pictures, my doctors name and address and i recieved $25,000 thousand dollars and i have to wear a wig the rest of my life. I dont understand were the most Wen has sent yall was $3,000 thats an insult.

  6. One last question says:

Anyone still waiting for their Wen check?

    1. TJ says:

Yes, I was just going to ask. I live in VA and I haven’t received it. According to an email they sent, it was mailed 3/30. I’ve emailed and left a message but no answer. Frustrating.

  7. Brent says:

I am partial bald about have on top of my head ,showed vid of amber woods men wen bottle I used, my friend is completely bald no hair what so ever same age, yes we are young too, mind you. he got $302.00 , he did a vid just like mine with his bottles, now I am partial bald about the size of a cereal bowl , I got $356.00 , before and after pics and no doctors involved either of us, no medical conditions and no job changes,, go figure this was randomly give out , I just bet the lawyers cousins and their family got paid , more then likely was not in that household nor was the administrator family either ,just distant , they had this all planned they could split it .

    1. B. Osborne says:

I am sorry for your trauma, even though I think baldness can be sexy on men…but for a woman it’s severely more devestating. It’s still your hair and you shouldn’t have been subjected to a ‘natural’ product or any deemed safe product damaging it and causing baldness. My daughter was subjected to injections into her scalp after her loss of hair. Thousands of dollars in weaves, treatments, wigs as a teenager, devastated and depressed.
My hair was covering my shower floor, but never suspected ‘ALL NATURAL, you can eat it’…Wen. The emotion suffering as my sister is a breast cancer survivor thinking I may have been a carrier. I finally stopped using Wen because my hair felt awful, looked horrid, hard to manage. I’m multi racial, so thought wasn’t for ‘Black’ hair. Started using non sulfate products and tremendous difference. I’ve got nothing yet from settlement but my daughter with pictures AND doctors statements, proof of treatments, STILL suffering from patches of baldness, only received $500.

  8. Desiree Pople says:

I was part of the tier 2 and I received my check 04/02/18. Thank you Class Action.

  9. Okay says:

I know all is done I am wondering why one person received close to $5000 and clearly stated they did not send in doctors statement and there is someone else who sent in everything that person sent in plus more a back dated detailed doctor statement and she only got under $2000….. they were not prepared for so many claims they truly dropped the ball maybe a suit can’t go against Wen but it seems like someone should be held responsible for this mess of things…..again I know scammers got paid also ….This is very shameful

    1. Desiree Pople says:

I agree they weren’t prepared for so many claims, obviously. Did you file before or after it was made public, if you don’t mind me asking? I filed after but submitted plenty of photos and statements from people who witnessed my situation. Prior to knowing I seen a doctor who didn’t find any cause for the amount of hair I was loosing. And because I trusted the product especially due to it’s prices, I didn’t realize that was the problem. Don’t I feel foolish, with my scalp and hair still damaged. I received 400 that’s about what I spent.

      1. Okay says:

after it was made public….with photos, witness statements, wen proof of purchase receipts, and proof of spending for treatments. no doctor statements $796….I had found out the doctor statement would need to specify Wen was the cause and the visits would need to be before the suit filing. which was in 2014 ….I did not know about it until 2016. My doctor without a doubt said Wen was the cause but it was after everybody already knew Wen was causing problems adverse reactions and folicure damage. And to this day they will not acknowledge that Wen is not for everybody and to discontinue use if this or that happen they continue to say it is safe.

        1. Okay says:

the amount I received totaled my receipts

  10. Ria Fisher says:

    Ria Renee Fisher

Check from WEN CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT arrived today. Range 2 of Tier 2 payment for $3968.34 (see photo of check attached below)

NO amount of money will undo the damage this product has caused in my life physically, emotionally, or professionally – as well as in the lives of thousands of other women.

My hair has been destroyed by WEN-it will never be the same again. After 5 years of no regrowth, I’ve had to accept this fact.

Reading all the posts from literally 1,000’s of women on many different websites about people’s traumatic WEN experiences is very disturbing and just breaks my heart. I feel for every one of them. A woman’s hair is such an important part of her identity and emotional well being…

While I’m very “grateful” for the monetary award I’ve received-I can say I DON’T understand the methodology they used to arrive at the awarded dollar amounts for plaintiffs. My documentation/experience was concretely in their written outline of RANGE 3 OF TIER 2 (which had an award range of $7,500 to $12,500). The award granted me was in RANGE 2 ($2,500-$7,500). I honestly feel that there was simply way more plaintiffs than they bargained for and too little money awarded for distribution.

I don’t feel anyone was given what they really deserved. I personally think that only people that submitted proof of harm should have been eligible for awards. There are many people who collected money who didn’t experience any physical trauma/damage… which isn’t really fair in light of how many people did experience damage and received too little.

It’s very sad to read the nasty comments and see people attacking each other over things that aren’t even in anyone’s control. No one had any control over what the outcome of the distribution amounts would be… so why be ugly towards one another? As women, we need to have compassion for each another.

And although I don’t understand the process the lawsuit administrators executed-what I DO get is that no one is a winner on any level here. It’s a loose, loose situation for everyone involved.

And for our emotional well-being-we all need to move forward…

I just hope that every woman who has been negatively affected by this product USES her VOICE to WARN other un-suspecting women about the potential caustic damage WEN can cause.

I’d wish someone had warned me…

It’s the RIGHT thing to do. And it’s the least I can do for others.

    1. TrulyBlessedForever says:

Thanks for the update because I am still waiting on my check, but the picture of the check did not post with your comment.

      1. Ria Fisher says:

        TrulyBlessedForever,

Sorry the check photo didn’t post-I tried multiple times to get it to post (unsuccessfully). I apologize… but I promised, it’s real.

I hope you receive your check soon and that it helps you find closure to a really painful experience.

        Many Blessings.

    2. Barbara says:

      Well said Ria.

      1. Ria Fisher says:

        Thank you Barbara.

It’s really a very sad situation for all involved. Really no winners-I’d sure much rather have my hair than a check any day. Money isn’t everything.

We desperately need to warn other women…

    3. Patty says:

I saw Ria’s photo of her check on the Top Class Actions Facebook page. That is indeed the amount she received. Ria, I noticed that your check number is 27799 and my check number was 36625. I sent in my claim nearing the deadline. When did you send yours? I’m wondering if the check numbers correspond with anything in particular?

      1. Ria Fisher says:

        Patty,

To answer your question, I also sent mine close to the deadline… barely made the deadline in fact. I almost didn’t participate in this suit-but wanted to do something to try and go on record regarding the damage this product was doing to people so decided to publically be a witness the only way I knew how.

I’ve heard that as a result of this suit and the testimony of the mother/daughter on Capitol Hill (about the daughter going bald with permanent damage to her scalp) that the FDA has launched an official investigation into WEN products.

I hope it’s true-as this is the goal for my participation… to get public attention drawn to this horrific experience that 1,000’s of us have gone through. Hopefully, it will be enough to get the product pulled from the market so it doesn’t continue to harm more people.

My heart truly goes out to everyone that has been hurt by and continues to suffer as a result of WEN.

        I wish everyone the best.

    4. B. Osborne says:

My daughter suffered devastating patches of baldness in the front top of her head, the middle and both sides. Follicle damage. She was a teenager when I brought Wen into our home. Doctors statements, treatments, pictures…she received $500. I’ve spent thousands of thousands of dollars. I thought Wen would help…so deceptive and continues to be available. Disgusted.
