A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit alleging WEN hair products caused some users to suffer hair loss, hair damage or scalp irritation.

If you purchased and/or used WEN hair care products, you may be entitled to compensation from the class action settlement.

Hundreds of plaintiffs have filed class action lawsuits against the manufacturers of WEN after they allegedly suffered hair loss and/or scalp injuries after using the hair care products.

One of the first WEN class action lawsuits was filed by plaintiff Amy Friedman of Florida. She says that she purchased a WEN Cleansing Conditioner product and began losing significant amounts of hair within two weeks of using the product.

Friedman says she relied on claims suggesting that “WEN is gentle enough to use every day” and that “WEN isn’t like an ordinary shampoo so you want to use more of it, not less.”

According to the WEN class action lawsuit, the defendants knew that the products suffered from a serious design defect but failed to warn consumers that WEN hair care products could cause significant hair loss.

In July 2016, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration launched an investigation into the WEN hair care products after it received a number of reports from consumers about the products.

In December 2015, the parties began mediation in order to resolve the WEN class action lawsuits.

Defendants Guthy-Renker LLC and WEN by Chaz Dean Inc. deny the allegations but have agreed to a class action settlement in order to avoid the cost and risk of trial. They have agreed to pay more than $26 million to settle the WEN hair care class action lawsuit.

The WEN class action settlement was preliminarily approved on Oct. 28, 2016.

If you would like to opt out of or object to the WEN class action settlement, you must do so no later than Feb. 10, 2017.

  1. Cyndi Smith says:

I had my own troubles with my hair was baby fine and it never grew past my shoulders. My hair was colorless, drab and I had no shine. One day I saw the Wen commercial and gave it a shot not thinking it was going to work. I used it for 2 weeks I noticed a big difference. Within a month my hair started growing and getting thicker. It had this in amazing shine, color, softness and highlights that I never had before. At one time I cut off 12 inches and donated it to Locks of Love. This product changed the way I looked at myself. I haven’t wanted colored my hair or got a perm again. I have been using it for almost 12 years. I’ve used every single one of the products. Seasonal, specials and new fragrances. I’ve never had any problems with any of them and I’ll never stop using them. I am very sorry for all of the problems I have read and I wish you all the luck in the world.

  2. Valerie Graves says:

It is 7/31/23 and I’ve used Wen for 2 yrs at least. I’ve lost 70% of my hair in the last 5 wks. It’s horrible. I look sick. My PCP did blood work and everything was in range. I’m waiting on a dermatologist that took blood last week. I’m devastated. If it is this shampoo what can I do?

  3. Janna stinnette says:

I have been using wen hair care products for about a year and I have went from very thick full hair to thin fine hair and a place where none grows at all anymore. But I also never knew that there was anything wrong with this product untill now I would greatly appreciate if someone would contact me about this. Going thru this is heartbreaking and kills my confidence and something should be done!

  4. Debra Goldfarb says:

I have used Wen Cleansing Conditioner for many years. After awhile I started returning my purchase because my hair had become so thin. I now have suffered from extreme hair loss over the years. My hair follicles not producing hair in many areas of my scalp. I am 100% positive this is from using Wen cleansing conditioner. My hair loss is documented with QVC over the years. I am now having to wear a wig. I went to my salon yesterday and was told my hair was too thin for extensions. I am embarrassed to leave my house and I haven’t socialized in years. I used the almond mint and the sweet sixteen for years. That’s sixteen is the one he dedicated to his mother that had passed. It was very expensive and I trusted this product. It has destroyed my self image and I don’t want to see people. I never knew there was a class action suit. Please advise what to do from here. Thank you for your time
    Respectfully
    Debra Goldfarb

  5. Diane Koehler says:

I used Wen for years it change my hair lost hair thin it out to where you can see my scalp

  6. Brenda Sanchez says:

I ALSO NEVER RECEIVED SO MUCH AS AN EMAIL, CALL, CHECK NOTHING!!!! WHO DO WE CONTACT FOR THE CHECK?

  7. Jennifer Trenery says:

Well, my family’s experience has been quite the opposite. I am quite stunned to read about all these claims. I’ve been using Wen since they first started the infomercials and my only complaint then was the autopay system. Once I got out of that system, I just ordered as needed from then on. I switched to Sixthirteen as soon as it came out, which my son also uses, and my husband uses the Mandarin Italian Fig. My daughter used the Lavender for a while, but she thought her hair looked greasy with it and stopped. Besides a few weeks here and there to switch things up a bit, we’ve been using it for every shower ever since. We’ve never had a problem and I don’t know what I would do without it. I’m sorry to hear of anyone experiencing hair loss, that’s just never happened to us.

  8. Carol Hammons says:

This makes me furious that we were never informed about a lawsuit. I lost more than 50% of my hair over a 3 year period. It never grew back. The entire structure of my hair changed. Went from thick, beautiful, lush curls to straight, fine and very brittle. I assumed it was stress from my father’s passing. I had no idea it was the WEN products. I feel very cheated that I’m just now finding about this all this time later. Such shady monsters.

    1. Mario Sanchez says:

You’re correct! But it seems they never forgot to send us the bill each month… 😠

    2. Carrie Neumann says:

Omg same happened to me. I used WEN for approximately 3 years. Lost about 60 percent of my hair in the spring of 2019. I’m just now finding this out! My hair never came back the same

      1. Marisa says:

I started to lose hair in 2015 and it didn’t grow back! I heard about the complaints in 2017 I think but saw reports that this was false so I never bothered with any claims. I stoped using wen about 2017.

  9. Jeannie hollman says:

  10. carolyn J holman says:
