Several electronic companies have agreed to pay a total of $104 million to settle a class action lawsuit stemming over allegations of conspiring to fix the prices of LCD flat panel devices.
The class action lawsuit brought by the Illinois Attorney General on behalf of the State of Illinois accused multiple corporations of raising and maintaining the price of thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal-display (TFT-LCD) flat panels.
Due to the alleged price-fixing conspiracy, Illinois residents were overcharged for LCD devices according to the lawsuit.
The five settling defendants deny all of the claims but agreed to the terms of the settlement to avoid the cost of further litigation. Under the LCD settlement, Chunghwa will pay nearly $670,000; Epson will pay $4.75 million; LG will pay $37.8 million; Hitachi will pay $10.4 million; Chi Mei will pay $39 million; and Sharp will pay $12 million.
While this will resolve the allegations for these defendants, three other companies accused of the same antitrust practices remain in this ongoing litigation.
To receive financial compensation from the class action, you must file a Claim Form no later than Oct. 4, 2016. Those who want to be excluded from this settlement must do so by June 4, 2016.
