LCD screen class action settlement

Several electronic companies have agreed to pay a total of $104 million to settle a class action lawsuit stemming over allegations of conspiring to fix the prices of LCD flat panel devices.

The class action lawsuit brought by the Illinois Attorney General on behalf of the State of Illinois accused multiple corporations of raising and maintaining the price of thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal-display (TFT-LCD) flat panels.

Due to the alleged price-fixing conspiracy, Illinois residents were overcharged for LCD devices according to the lawsuit.

The five settling defendants deny all of the claims but agreed to the terms of the settlement to avoid the cost of further litigation. Under the LCD settlement, Chunghwa will pay nearly $670,000; Epson will pay $4.75 million; LG will pay $37.8 million; Hitachi will pay $10.4 million; Chi Mei will pay $39 million; and Sharp will pay $12 million.

While this will resolve the allegations for these defendants, three other companies accused of the same antitrust practices remain in this ongoing litigation.

To receive financial compensation from the class action, you must file a Claim Form no later than Oct. 4, 2016. Those who want to be excluded from this settlement must do so by June 4, 2016.

  1. not for sure says:

There is a law suit filed..that once they get the claims and the settlement is approved.their supposed to process claims right away on a first come basis..

  2. klazact2016 says:

Yeah, I notice that too. This may take a while considering its the State of IL. The money is being kept in some type of account drawing interest that the State will take since its having financial problems. Be surprised if checks are sent within the next six months. Otherwise, I don’t see checks going out for about a year.

    1. Corey says:

I talked to the claims admin. They say they took the website down after the deadline Oct 4th. And it will be atleast 6 months to year before a check goes out.

    2. Reese 123 says:

Just stupid it’s only for Illinois only that’s why your claim will be rejected

  3. Amy Zimmerman says:

When will we be receiving compensation?

    1. Top Class Actions says:

No word on when claims will be paid. The claim form deadline was just on 10/4/16. It can take the Settlement Administrator several months to review and process claims for a settlement of this magnitude. Please keep checking Top Class Actions for updates. We will let our viewers know as soon as we learn that checks are in the mail!

  4. JENNELL says:

No its solved…going to just payout this month or next month….

    1. Corey says:

I talked too claims admin they say checks won’t go out for 6 months to a year.

  5. klazact2016 says:

    TCA,

Is there a Final Hearing date set for this case or is this an agreed upon payout from the defendants without need for appeal period?

    1. Top Class Actions says:

The settlement website doesn’t state if and when a final hearing will take place. You should contact the settlement administrator or class counsel with any questions. Good luck!

  6. Claudia A Ward says:

This mentions LG, front loading washers with mold odor, which I have had for years.

  7. Tammy Gaede says:

I purchased my GPS in Illinois while staying with my brother but have since moved to Florida. I also purchased an LG 60 ” tv ordered on line but had it shipped to Wisconsin while I lived there for six months. Am I eligible for the large screen rebate since it was purchased on line and picked up in WI?

How do I get a form for my GPS?

    Please advise about the tv
    Thank you.

  8. Tina Goodale says:

I want to know why this constitutes a lawsuit in the state of Washington and Illinois yet not in Missouri or any other state. The TVs are no different there than in any other state. So what about Missouri???

    1. s says:

they already had one look it up in lcd class actions, it included several states and that was one of them. sorry

    2. Jmw says:

Every state is negotiating with the manufacturer of these tvs for their own deal. Florida had their settlement last year and i received almost $1200.00

  9. reesie123 says:

This is for Illinois only yaaa

  10. Peggy says:

I bought 2 55\ TVs in the last 3 years but I don’t know where the recipients are. One from Walmart the other from The Shoppe. Not to mention the smart phones. Should I file?
