Owners and lessees of 2014 and 2015 Jeep Cherokee, 2015 Jeep Renegade, 2015 Chrysler 200, or 2015 ProMaster City vehicles may qualify for a class action settlement over allegations that Fiat Chrysler supplied defective automatic transmissions.

Lead plaintiffs filed a class action lawsuit against Fiat Chrysler after they and other consumers allegedly experienced problems with vehicles containing a nine-speed ZF 9HP automatic transmission.

According to the Fiat Chrysler class action lawsuit, a defect caused loud noises and made vehicles difficult to shift into gear.

These problems allegedly occurred despite Fiat Chrysler’s marketing of vehicles with the affected transmission as incorporating the benefits of both manual and automatic transmissions.

The Fiat Chrysler transmission class action lawsuit states that the defect presents a safety hazard because with delayed acceleration and sudden loss of power, the driver doesn’t have full control of the vehicle.

The FCA class action lawsuit points to numerous complaints about Class Vehicles made with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Repeatedly, consumers report that their FCA transmission completely shut down on highways and could have caused a serious accident.

Under the terms of the Fiat Chrysler transmission defect class action settlement, Class Members who made at least three transmission-related complaints to an FCA US-authorized dealer could receive up to $2,000 cash or a trade-in value of up to $4,000.

Fiat Chrysler has also agreed to extend warranties on vehicles containing the 9 Speed ZF 9HP automatic transmission of the Class Vehicles to 6 years or 100,000 miles.

Class Members have until May 15, 2019 to file a claim in the class action settlement. Class Members who wish to object to or opt out of the class action settlement must notify the court by Jan. 2, 2019.

The final hearing will be held on Feb. 13, 2019.

Who’s Eligible

Class Members include those “who purchased or leased new, in the United States, for family, household, or personal use, and still own, one of the following vehicles equipped with a 9 Speed ZF 9HP Automatic Transmission: model-years 2014 and 2015 Jeep Cherokee; model-year 2015 Jeep Renegade; model-year 2015 Chrysler 200; and model-year 2015 ProMaster City.”

To claim cash or trade-in value benefits, Class Members must have made at least three transmission-related complaints to an FCA US-authorized dealer before the date their class notice was made.

Potential Award

Up to $2,000 cash or $4,000 voucher.

Proof of Purchase

A completed claim form along with documentation of at least three transmission-related complaints made before Nov. 16, 2018 must be submitted.

I’m so mad right now.. brought a 2015 Chrysler 200 back in October of 2014. Been having shifting and stalling problems since day one. All they been doing was resetting my car and said nothing was wrong. Until my vehicle shut completely down one day and I had a riley guy test it. Came back 21 codes. Until I showed it to the dealership they finally she they found something. Then I get this post card sent in all info over 6 plus complaints and the deny me. Smh!

    1. Deborah Ross says:

Its the computer. Take it to a dealer for the recall, and it took our TWO times, repairing the computer issue for transmission. Its under recall info for the car.

    2. Angela says:

Same with me ! They even tried replacing the engine. I had so many repairs and complaints and i was denied. Although I submitted all proofs on time… They denied me for not having 3 complaints to Chrysler dealership.

    3. Debria Lyons says:

Hello, I am having the same issues. Were you able to find out what the problem is, the dealer ship has not been able to help.

    4. Angela says:

Same here, 2015 200, car shut off on me all the time, they reset it OVER and over REPLACED ENGINE ! Still had the problems. Complained over 16 times and documented it. Still denied for not making 3 complaints to a dealer…. Hello! I’ve had more then 3 repairs, which obviously came from COMPLAINTS to the dealer, not to mention the amount of times I’ve contacted Chrysler manufacturer….
      This settlement was a joke

  2. Andrew Conversano says:

Just received a check today for $ 2,000.00 ! I bought a new Jeep Cherokee Latitude in September 2014. I took it in for problems twice in the first year. They replaced the transmission in Nov 2015 ( they gave me a free rental for a month ! ) I went back four more times as trans still seems to jump when it downshifts. They keep doing updates. I paid for the Super Duper Lifetime Warranty so the 100,000 mile warranty option was not a consideration ( and I have 108,000 on it already ). My last payment is in Oct so I didn’t want a $ 4,000.00 Trade In Coupon. Since I had gone in six times total I qualified for the max $ 2,000.00. We’ll see if they honor they’re lifetime warranty down the road…

    1. Deborah Ross says:

They should refund the extended warranty you bought.

      1. Andrew Conversano says:

They could have offered that as another option, I guess. The good news is the lifetime warranty is good on a lot of other parts besides the transmission.

  3. Dave says:

When are the payments going out? We sent in our (10) repair orders 12/20/2018. I talked to one of the lawyers and we told pre loaded Visa cards would bo out after 9/15/2019.
Should be this week. Don’t spend it yet!

    1. Judy says:

I thought it was a check?

    2. RangerLady says:

I just received a check yesterday: $400.00 is all I got. I only had 3 documented service orders on my 2015 ProMaster City Wagon. It was a terrible daily driver at first, because I didn’t drive it everyday. Once I started as an Uber Driver, it smoothed right out and have only one service since then (no longer a Uber Driver – just doing short stints around the corner)…Almost ready to 40K miles…and now I wait for the trouble to begin?
