Tipton - Circa November 2016: FCA Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Transmission Plant. FCA sells vehicles under the Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep brands ILast week, two plaintiffs asked a New Jersey federal judge to preliminarily approve a class action settlement over allegations that certain Fiat Chrysler vehicles had transmission defects.

If approved, the proposed Fiat Chrysler settlement would resolve more than two years of litigation over allegations that certain vehicles manufactured by FCA US LLC equipped with the nine-speed ZF 9HP automatic transmission had a defect that caused transmission problems.

According to the FCA transmission defect class action lawsuit, the ZF 9HP transmission was meant to incorporate the best attributes of traditional manual and automatic transmissions to achieve better performance and fuel efficiency.

However, the ZF 9HP transmission caused shifting to be rough and erratic, and drivers allegedly experienced loud noises while shifting, the Fiat Chrysler transmission defect class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiffs Dolores and Albert Granillo and Desiree Nava each own a Jeep Cherokee equipped with the ZF 9HP, and they claim that they experienced the Fiat Chrysler transmission defect during the first year of driving their vehicles.

The plaintiffs say they complained to FCA dealers about their transmission problems and, in response, the dealers updated the software on the powertrain control module and transmission control module in each of their vehicles. However, this attempted repair did not fix their transmission problems. They filed the Fiat Chrysler transmission defect class action lawsuit in July 2015.

According to the court documents, the Fiat Chrysler transmission defect settlement was reached following two mediations. “This settlement reflects a vigorous negotiation of terms, resolving the matter approximately a year after the first mediation,” the plaintiffs say.

Class Members of the proposed FCA transmission defect settlement include current owners and lessees of new vehicles manufactured by FCA equipped with the nine-speed ZF 9HP automatic transmission.

The proposed Fiat Chrysler settlement will provide all eligible Class Members with an extended warranty. Class Members who made at least three qualifying transmission complaints to FCA US dealers would be entitled to a cash payment of up to $2,000 or a voucher for a trade-in for up to $4,000.

“These cash payments will compensate Class Members even though they did not incur out-of-pokcet costs for warranty repairs, which makes this settlement distinct from other types of settlements in which the primary benefit is reimbursement,” the plaintiffs say in their motion.

    1. Sandra Williams says:

  4. Constance McIlwain says:

I am currently dealing with a 2015 Grand Caravan. All your stories sound like mine only my dealer is blaming ME and claiming I ran over something! This thing has been in the shop more than all my other cars combined (and I am old enough to have driven 1.5 million miles) – Chrysler does not care!

  5. AF says:

We just traded in our junk Cherokee at the dealerships suggestion. This after a dozen trips in for the transmission and weeks without it or even a rental! It got to the point the dealer was bringing techs up from Detroit to help troubleshoot the pile of crap. Everyone that got rid of their shitty FCA vehicles should still be included in this!

    1. Vicky Sampah says:

Same happened to me. They brought engineers from wherever to look at mine. problem is still there. I still have mine because I still owe and it was under water and trade in value was like nothing. I did every thing I could. no one heard me.

  6. carl penley says:

I wish i new about this sooner. got tired of the issue with the transmission and the dealership not fixing the issue. i just traded the Chrysler 200 in .. now i have higher payments on a different car cause of this. guess this leaves me out of the settlement. the Chrysler 200 was a nightmare..

    1. Vicky Sampah says:

yup mine is a Chrysler 200 too. visited the dealership more than 15 times. Had one accident with transmission shifting.

  7. Anson says:

I am lucky, I guess. WE own Chrysler 200 (2015 model) with only

    19,000 miles on odometer.

So far no problems. We keep our fingers crossed!!

The FIAT-Chrysler Corp. should extend warranties for 100,000 miles or 10 years.

Believe the NISSAN Corp is doing this.—Y>Anson.

    1. Vicky Sampah says:

You better trade it in now. same 200 2015 after 36,000 miles it will start
