Electrolux ice maker defect

A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit alleging Electrolux manufactured and sold refrigerators that contain a defective ice maker. If you purchased a Crosley, Electrolux or Frigidaire “French Door” refrigerator-freezer unit with a Gen 1 Ice Maker, you may be entitled to payment from the class action settlement.

The ice maker class action lawsuit accused Frigidaire of acting deceptively in designing, manufacturing, selling and servicing “French Door” refrigerators with a certain type of ice maker. The plaintiffs allege that the Electrolux ice maker is defective.

Electrolux denies any wrongdoing but has agreed to settle the ice maker class action lawsuit to avoid the uncertainty, time and expense of further litigation.

Class Members who wish to opt out of the Electrolux ice maker class action settlement must do so no later than Jan. 4, 2016.

UPDATE: The court granted final approval of this settlement on Feb. 10, 2016. Claims are being processed at this time. Keep checking this article for updates.

Who’s Eligible

Class Members of the Electrolux ice maker settlement include: “[A]ll individuals and entities in the United States who are original purchasers of a Gen 1 FDBM.”

A “Gen 1 FDBM” is a refrigerator-freezer unit with dual refrigerator doors and the freezer compartment mounted below the refrigerator compartment that both:

  • Was manufactured by or for Electrolux, and
  • Contains a Gen 1 Ice Maker.

A “Gen 1 Ice Maker” is an ice maker module that:

  • Is mounted in the refrigerator compartment,
  • Dispenses ice through the refrigerator door,
  • Creates ice cubes by cooling water to below freezing by means of liquid coolant circulating through metal “fingers” inserted vertically into cup-shape molds filled with water, and
  • Produces cylindrical ice cubes.

NOTE: If you have received a full refund of the purchase price for a qualifying refrigerator or if you received a free exchange refrigerator without a Gen 1 Ice Maker, you are not a Class Member of this Electrolux ice maker settlement.

Potential Award

$100 or more.

Under the terms of the ice maker class action settlement, Electrolux will pay a $100 cash benefit to each Claim Member who submits a timely and valid Claim Form.

Class Members who submit receipts documenting qualifying past out-of-pocket repair expenses may receive reimbursement for some or all of these expenses.

Additionally, Class Members may receive a non-transferable $100 rebate on the future purchase of qualifying Electrolux or Frigidaire appliances.

Proof of Purchase

Class Members must provide the serial number of the qualifying refrigerator.

  1. Jun says:

I just spent more than $500 to fix my ice maker, then I was it is not repairable after 4 times technician came to our house to diagnostic, replace parts…. finally the technician called manufacture and knew there was lawsuit. I called Electrolux customer service, and was told the lawsuit was closed, Electrolux won’t do anything for my fridge. How could this happen, how could Electrolux treat their customers like this? I won’t buy anything from Electrolux.

  3. Derek Barr says:

I had the exact same problem with my electrolux (purchased 2014) – rust out the back and ice maker not working. Sent a tech out 3x to fix icemaker, with no luck. Very disappointed and no options to fix. No notification on the recall as well….

  4. R. Nolan says:

Any lawyers listening ? Seems a missed opportunity….
I bought my Frigidaire French door model just prior to covid start late 2019 and no sooner than months after getting, the ice-maker acts up so I defrost that compartment and it may work for 6 months or stop working after 3 days depends on how it feels. I will try using the extended warranty now that it doesn’t want to work after any defrost whether using the panel and/or hot air method for 5 mins.. I’ve sworn off any products owned by Electrolux, seems they have a bad record.

    1. Renee Francis says:

Bought my Frigidaire in August 20 20 it’s not even three years old and the icemaker is completely out and it’s out of warranty. Frigidaire/Electrolux will not do anything about it. I agree this would be another class action lawsuit because my fridge model number is FFHB2750TS9.

  5. Billy DuBose Sr. says:

I also paid about $1500 for the Frigidaire refrigerator From Lowe’s in Gautier Ms. Also paid for About 3 year extended warranty. They Worked on it Until he told me You bought a Defective Frigidaire fridge. They Sold Me This While They were Being Sued in the Courts. But I didn’t Know it. It Should have been Pulled And Not sold to Anybody. Model # IFFHB2740PP5A. Serial # 4A43825612 manufactured 09/14
I only used it 5 years and finally got a broken wire in the ice tray area. They think it’s where the Big Rust Spot is on the Back of the Fridge behind ice maker That cost me $300.00 more dollars for them to tell me it couldn’t be fixed . 2 companies came out and told me the same thing can’t be Fixed …I had to go Buy Another Fridge and Paid $1200.00 more .In November 2021

  6. Edna Crist says:

I too bought my Electrolux refrigerator in 2014. It’s now 2021. And I’m having to buy a new refrigerator because it’s rusting out the back and ice is forming. A matter of time I’m sure. I’m furious. I never got contacted about the recall.

    1. Pissed Off Is MY Name! says:

There was no recall, that’s the problem. Since this class action suit was closed in 2016, how can they continue to sell these worthless products? Between 1. Electrolux: (ice maker mfg)
      2. Frigidaire: (Fridge mfg)
      3. Lowes (seller)
      4. A gazillion repair companies

ALL MAKING TONS OF MONEY AND IT IS STILL ONGOING?????

      PLUS: LAWYERS

WE AS THE CONSUMER SPENDING A COUPLE GRAND OR MORE FOR FAULTY PRODUCTS THAT THEY ALL KNEW WERE FAULTY?
Mine was manufactured in 2017 AFTER the lawsuit ended??? How crazy and completely sad, that people that actually joined the suit only got $100.00! This country has gone absolutely mad! So the lawyers filing the suit didn’t bother to follow up and force recalls on this? Let’s go after the lawyers now!

  7. Maryann says:

Same issue with ice maker was never notified, paid over $300 to have it fixed and couple weeks later it started all over again.

  8. Maria Arnone says:

same issue. purchased DGHF2360 from PCRichards in 2014.
I had extended warranty and was NEVER NOTIFIED of this issue.
now, like others, I have a rust spot on the back, an icemaker that doesn’t work and ice cube trays in my freezer. Only 7 years old, and I will NEVER purchase Frigidaire/Electrolux again

    1. Jennifer Gill says:

Same!!!! I was never notified of this. Had all kinds of issues with this icemaker AND the rust spot started to leak recently that set the water alarm off we had on the floor (thank God) so I pulled it out and the back of the fridge has a huge rust spot with ice over it that was melting. I am livid!

  9. Robert Manning says:

Same thing as others. Bought an expensive fridge ($2,700) and now it’s worthless after 6 years. I heard they settled for $100 per customer which is a joke. Was never notified anyway. Any ideas on how to go after Frigidaire count me in. Obviously will never but their product again.

  10. Sean Essig says:

Same issue. Ice maker stops dispensing ice. Ice forms on the ice maker components. A Rust spot on the rear panel.

    1. Clarence Houston says:

Yes.. Exactly. I bought my refrigerator in 2014 and i have been complaining about it since 2015 .my ice maker makes some cubes but it also makes a brick of ice … My refrigerator also has a hole in the back panel . unbelievable… A HOLE. I PAID 2500.00 DOLLARS FOR THIS MACHINE . i called the store where i purchased it and they wouldn’t satisfy me … I then called. Frigidaire and nothing. I was going to call to have the refrigerator fixed then i decided to look the problem up on YouTube. I now found out this is a common problem and i want to be compensated.
