Electrolux Home Products Inc. has agreed to a dryer settlement class action lawsuit alleging some Electrolux dryer models contain defects that can cause them to catch fire due to lint buildup. The class action lawsuit alleged the company breached warranties, was negligent, violated consumer protection laws and unlawfully profited from the sale of the dryers.

Consumers who purchased certain freestanding clothes dryers between Jan. 1, 2002, and Dec. 31, 2011, could be eligible for benefits from the settlement.

Electrolux denies its dryers are defective or that they pose an unreasonable fire hazard to consumers. The company denies any wrongdoing but has agreed to settle the class action lawsuit to avoid the risk and expense of further litigation.

A final approval hearing in the Electrolux class action lawsuit settlement was held in 2014.

The objection and exclusion deadlines for the settlement have passed.

The deadline to file a claim for reimbursement for future dryer fires in the Electrolux class action lawsuit settlement is Dec. 31, 2022.

Who’s Eligible

Class Members of the Electrolux dryer class action settlement include all persons in the United States who purchased or currently own a new Frigidaire, White Westinghouse, Kelvinator, Gibson, Tappan, Crosley or Kenmore brand ball-hitch freestanding clothes dryer manufactured by Electrolux between Jan. 1, 2002 and Dec. 31, 2011.

The Electrolux dryer settlement also includes two Subclasses, consisting of Class Members (1) who have experienced a dryer fire and (2) who experience a dryer fire in the future.

Potential Award

The Electrolux class action settlement provides the following benefits to qualifying Class Members:

  • A cash rebate or online voucher code worth up to $350 off the purchase of a new Frigidaire or Electrolux brand home appliance or product; and/or
  • A free dryer cleaning service for eligible dryers; and/or
  • Up to $1,300 for out-of-pocket expenses due to a fire in a dryer.

Electrolux has also agreed to send a safety notice to identifiable Class Members informing them that lint can build up inside their dryers and that dryers should be cleaned by an authorized service professional at least every 18 months.

  1. K Wilkes says:

Yes, I received this same form for a 10% cash rebate for a new Frigidaire brand dryer or select appliance; or a 20% cash rebate for a new Electrolux brand dryer or select appliance. This only allows the company to promote their appliances, and cost us the consumers additional monies to replace our units. Why not just give us, the consumers a voucher to purchase our replacement appliance unit, instead of making us spend monies.

  2. L Boyer says:

    Folks,
You need to read the fine print carefully, in the settlement resolution letter. I received my “voucher” today, and what a load of “nonsense”. I want to say a load of something else, but it wouldn’t get printed.
The settlement does NOT give you an open ended rebate on ANY Electrolux or Frigidaire appliance. There is a specific list of appliances that the rebate will apply to. In my case, I have a Frigidaire Affinity washer and gas dryer, NEITHER have been all that reliable, and the dryer is one of the models that is covered by the supposed rebate program.
Here’s the deal….I can ONLY use the rebate on one of three “high end” Electrolux dryers, units that retail for $950-1200. I don’t recall exactly what I paid for mu current dryer, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t $900, and all I was interested in, was replacing my questionable dryer with a comparable unit. Can’t be done!!
Yes, I realize that some might say that I’m crazy, because I’d be getting a “high end” dryer for a “mid-level” price, but first of all, I don’t really need all the additional “bells and whistles” these fancy dryers have. It’s just more stuff to break. And secondly, the customer reviews attached to these 3 units aren’t exactly the best, either…..

Received a form for 10% rebate on Frigidaire appliance or 20% rebate on Electrolux dryer or select appliance.

  10. Lisa Dandridge says:

I receive your newsletter and I just wanted to thank you all for all the updates. I would like to know if the class action suit against whirlpool duet washers has been settled or when do you think it will be settled. I am part of the class action and haven’t heard anything in quite some time. Please get back to me.

Thanks again for all the information you provide.

    1. Bernie Hughes says:

There is very little benefit from this settlement except for the attorneys and Electrolux since all you get is 10% off qualifying appliances. Electrolux will sell a bunch of appliances giving a 10% discount, Whoo Whoo.
I was led to believe I would get a $350 rebate- not up to $350. Another case of the usual crap.
