Silicosis is becoming increasingly common among stone fabricators, including workers who cut and craft quartz countertops.
Many workers were never adequately warned about the serious risks of silica dust exposure. They also may not have been informed that proper protective equipment was necessary to help prevent the disease.
Stone workers diagnosed with silicosis may be able to file a silicosis lawsuit against manufacturers to seek compensation for medical expenses, lost income, permanent disability and other related damages. Families who lost a loved one to silicosis from quartz countertop fabrication may also have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim.

What is silicosis?
Silicosis is a preventable lung disease caused by inhaling tiny particles of silica, a mineral found in quartz, sand and other stone materials. Workers who cut, grind or fabricate quartz countertops may be exposed to high levels of silica dust, which can damage the lungs over time and cause permanent scarring.
Silicosis is a progressive disease, and there is no cure once lung damage has occurred. In severe cases, the condition can lead to serious complications, including lung cancer, tuberculosis, autoimmune disorders and other life-threatening illnesses.
Because silicosis often develops gradually over 10 to 30 years, many workers may not realize they were harmed until years after their exposure.
Can you get silicosis from quartz countertops?
In recent years, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has identified engineered stone fabrication as an emerging source of silicosis among workers. Cutting, grinding and finishing quartz countertops can generate extremely high levels of silica dust, placing fabrication professionals at significant risk of developing the disease.
