Details: The Samsung TV settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit, entitled Russell, et al. v., Samsung Electronics America, Inc., that alleges Samsung manufactured and sold certain Samsung-branded televisions that contain a capacitor defect that cause the televisions to experience symptoms such as not turning on, experiencing a delay in turning on, making a clicking sound, cycling on and off, or other similar problems (the “Covered TV Symptoms”).
Samsung denies the allegations in the class action lawsuit, but has agreed to settle the case to avoid ongoing litigation.
The television models covered under the Samsung TV capacitor settlement are:

If you own one of these Samsung TVs and experienced one or more of the Covered TV Symptoms listed above, or if you experience a Covered TV Symptom within 18 months after March 2, 2012, you can claim one of the following benefits from the Samsung TV class action lawsuit settlement:
(1) A free service visit to determine if your TV has a problem covered by the class action settlement and, if it does, to fix the problem. You must call (888) 899-7602 within 18 months from March 2, 2012 to receive this settlement benefit. If your TV requires more than one repair for a capacitor issue covered by the class action settlement, you will receive an additional $50 payment.
(2) A refund of expenses you incurred, prior to March 2, 2012, to evaluate or diagnose the problem covered by the class action settlement (up to $150). You must submit proof that your TV has a Covered TV Symptom (such as a receipt, bill cancelled check or credit card charge, correspondence, verification from repair provider) before March 2, 2013 to receive this settlement benefit.
(3) A refund of expenses you incurred, prior to March 2, 2012, to fix the problem covered by the class action settlement (up to $150 to fix the capacitor issue or $300 if the repair included replacing a power supply board). You can also receive up to $150 to cover shipping expenses, including insurance costs, you incurred to fix the TV. You must submit a claim form and proof that your TV had a capacitor issue by March 2, 2013 to receive this settlement benefit.
(4) A $300 debit card if you reported to Samsung, prior to March 2, 2012, the problem covered by the class action settlement, but did not get it fixed, and you no longer possess your TV. You must submit a claim form and proof that you purchased a TV within 90 days of March 2, 2012 to get this settlement benefit.
In other words, a customer who repaired their Samsung TV may receive up to $600 for diagnosis, repairs, and shipping, plus $50 if they need more repairs; while a customer who no longer has the TV can still receive up to $450 for diagnosis and compensation.

I have a 67″ dlp. purchased at hsn or qvc, hsn I think. bought extended 3yr? warranty. main power board Had to be replaced 3 times for capacitors, all aprox a year apart. finally the last time when warranty was approaching end, repairman put a better/upgraded board. no trouble since. TV was properly registered and all that. Never received any notice or help from Samsung!
I called customer service and had it escalated to executive customer assistance and they refused to offer any financial assistance to cover the repair of the faulty capacitor! they said if I had registered the product they would have notified me but that the time period has ended. I don’t understand how the time period matters…it is defective, period! I want to join a new class action lawsuit.
I purchased a LED DLP TV in 2008. I had all the classic Capacitor issues that everyone was experiencing. The problem started in 2010, and I paid to replace the power board (purchased from Samsung) because it was out of warranty. Later that year, the capacitors popped yet again, and I replaced the power board again, since when I called Samsung a second time, they again told me that the TV was out of warranty, and the part was an electrical component, that it was not warrantied either. Finally I had heard of the class action settlement against Samsung, I called yet again. and again I was told it wasn’t covered. so I mentioned the class action lawsuit, I was told that they would cover it. Samsung scheduled the repair, and send someone out to diagnose and replace the power board. So this is 2.5 years later, and the symptoms are back. so this is getting to be a regular thing with Samsung TVs, like an oil change. make sure you change out your power capacitors once every two years. I have bought MANY Samsung products over the years. spent THOUSANDS of dollars with them. But never again. in fact.. THERE NEEDS TO BE ANOTHER CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT.
Have a TV with the capacitor issue. Bought it for my dad in july 2008 and it is one of the mdels included in the lawsuit, however because I never registered the TV, that is the reason that I never received notification about the lawsuit/settlement as the Samsung rep told me yesterday. The rep offered to send a tech to fix the issue however only parts would b covered and tat I would be responsible for labor. I dont feel it is fair that I should have to pay to repair something that has occurred as a result of a manufacturer defect. The rep I talked to talked over me and wasver rude and condescending. He ended up hanging up on me because I told him I would like to speak with his supervisor regarding the issue and his reply was that he could put in for a supervisor callback. I advised that I idn’t mind waiting on the line for a supervisor. Probably the worst customer service experience ever. Has anyone written into corporate and gotten esults from doing so?
