TransUnion sent letters to consumers disclosing a data breach that exposed personal and financial information.

The consumer credit reporting agency, which did not say how many individuals the breach affects, revealed the incident to the Massachusetts Attorney General, AppleInsider reports. 

TransUnion reportedly says the data breach exposed names, Social Security Numbers, financial account numbers and full driver’s license numbers. 

TransUnion data breach letters instruct consumers how to protect themselves from fraud, identity theft

In the letters, TransUnion instructed potentially affected individuals on how to protect themselves from becoming victims of identity theft or fraud, AppleInsider reports. 

TransUnion is one of the largest consumer credit reporting agencies in the world, collecting information from more than 1 billion individuals around the globe and 200 million from within the United States alone, according to the company. 

The company has not yet posted about the data breach on its website, JD Supra reports.  

In related news, a consumer filed a class action lawsuit against TransUnion last month, arguing the company unlawfully records the voiceprints of callers without obtaining their express written consent.

    I’d like to be added to this lawsuit please notify me when I’m able to fill out a claim form for this case and one thing needs to be said and hopefully heard by all those companies that haven’t gotten there companies hard drive where they store our personal information they requested us to submit it to them for the ability to open an account with them so hopefully after watching and reading about all these companies that have our personal information of all kinds getting there system hacked and they breach all the secure information and they need to start taking steps to finally prevent these Data Breach’s from occurring. and ruining people’s lives there homes property of all kinds and it’s because of the damages those data breaches causes in the aftermath

    I use TransUnion so I’m guessing I was affected though I can’t say for absolutely suruty. I do know that within the last several months I’ve had to replace three debit cards 3 different times due to unauthorized transactions. It kept happening. I would get my new cards and again, the same fake companies would have my new card info before I even used it and would withdraw money.
