The private information of 21 million consumers was compromised and already listed for sale to cybercriminals after a massiveย data breachย affecting a mobile parking services company,ย ParkMobile, claims a class action lawsuit filed Thursday.ย ย
Lead plaintiff, Tyler Baker, filed the complaint seeking to represent otherย ParkMobileย customers nationwide in Georgia federal court. Baker claims thatย ParkMobileโsย lax cybersecurity procedures lead to the theft of an extensive amount of private identifiable information about him and millions of other consumers who used the company to pay for parking.ย ย
ParkMobileย is a parking services company that millions of consumers use to pay for parking across the nation using a mobile app. The company requires users to submit private identifiable information to set up an account to use the service.ย ย
Baker says that he and other consumers were informed of theย ParkMobileย data breach in late March of this year. The company said that cybercriminals were able to hack aย third-partyย vendor and steal customer information, includingย names, license plate numbers, email addresses, phone numbers, vehicle nicknames, passwords, and home addresses.ย ย
The plaintiff claims that he has been the subject of unrelenting phishing and other cyber-attacks since the breach. He alleges that he was forced to shut down his PayPal account, but still receives fake emails telling him he has a $30,000 deposit in the account in an attempt to lure him into disclosing more personal information.ย ย
Baker says he has spent countless hours attempting to protect himself and says he is concerned that he and other consumers will be victims of identity theft and fraud in the future due to theย ParkMobileย data breach.ย ย
Indeed,ย Baker alleges that the information gleaned from theย ParkMobileย data breach has already been listed for sale on the internet at the price of $125,000 in a Russian crime forum.ย
The class action lawsuit alleges thatย ParkMobileโsย own shoddy data protection procedures resulted in the cyberattack.ย ย
โHadย ParkMobileย remedied the deficiencies in its information storage and security systems, followed industry guidelines, and adopted security measures recommended by experts in the field,ย ParkMobileย could have prevented intrusion into its information storage and security systems and, ultimately, the theft of Plaintiffโs and Class Membersโ confidential [information],โ alleges the lawsuit.ย ย
Baker seeks to represent other consumers whose private identifiable information was compromised in theย ParkMobileย data breach. The class action lawsuit seeks to hold the company responsible for losses and other expenses related to the data breach, along with attorney and court fees.ย ย

Add me to Lawsuit
I just received a notification from a different monitoring app that my info was compromised in this breach. I was NEVER contacted by ParkMobile despite STILL USING THE APP (until now that is). I have had similar strange experiences with random transactions in my PayPal that I could not identify and later simply disappeared. I had no idea what it was from. These transactions never showed on my statements so I have no record of them or when they occured.
