Invokamet adverse side effects can be life-threatening if not treated early.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned in May 2015 that a variety of type-2 diabetes medications has been known to increase a patient’s risk of serious side effects such as ketoacidosis and kidney failure.
These medications are known as sodium-glucose contransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors. Invokamet (canagliflozin metformin) is one of the newest drugs.
Invokamet Adverse Side Effects
Invokamet is intended to treat type-2 diabetes by lowering blood sugar through combined use of canagliflozin and metformin. Canagliflozin helps your kidneys lower glucose levels in the bloodstream, while the metformin component decreases the liver’s production of glucose.
According to the FDA’s reports of Invokamet adverse side effects, 20 cases of diabetic ketoacidosis, ketoacidosis, and ketosis were found in patients treated with these SGLT2 inhibitors in a one-year period from March 2013 to June 2014. The conditions were serious enough that the patients were either hospitalized or treated in the emergency room.
The FDA has continued to receive reports of diabetic ketoacidosis in connection with the use of SGLT2 inhibitors such as Invokamet.
Because of the severity of ketoacidosis and the FDA’s warning, patients who take SGLT2 inhibitors should be aware of Invokamet adverse side effects. Symptoms include:
- Difficulty breathing
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Abdominal pain
- Confusion
- Unusual fatigue or sleepiness
The FDA has revised the labels of Invokamet and other SGLT2 inhibitors to include the risk of ketoacidosis.
SGLT2 inhibitors are also linked with a number of other serious side effects. Invokamet adverse side effects include, but are not limited to:
- Dehydration (dizziness, lightheadedness)
- Vaginal yeast infection
- Yeast infection of the penis
- Low blood sugar
- Serious allergic reaction
- Kidney problems, including kidney failure
Invokamet Lawsuits
Some patients who suffered Invokamet adverse side effects allege that the manufacturer either knew or should have known about Invokamet’s link to ketoacidosis, yet failed to adequately warn the public and the medical community about these problems.
Invokamet lawsuits allege that if manufacturer Janssen Pharmaceuticals had warned the public and medical community about the risks of Invokamet adverse side effects, patients would have chosen a safer alternative.
If you or someone you love has suffered from Invokamet adverse side effects, you may have cause for filing an Invokamet lawsuit.
